Politics in school

As an active student politician in my campus, I have come to appreciate the role that politics plays in the university. A lot of people tag politics as a dirty game but this is just a single, one sided story. The role of politics in the university can never be underestimated. In order to totally bring my message home I will give an example of how politics can be a huge advantage especially to the welfare of the student body at large.
Two weeks ago, my university was in total blackout in that there hasn’t been any electricity for over three days and three nights. It was bad because without electricity, there is likely to be no water for the student use. And so the campus was in a total state of unrest because there was no light and there was no water. On the second day of the total blackout, the students came together to protest and marched around the Vice Chancellor’s office in angry protests but were being met with answers from the vice chancellor such as, “We couldn’t pay the light bills”, “The school electricity generator broke down” and a lot of other flimsy excuses.
The current SUG (Student Union Government) had to intervene, he staged a meeting with the authorities together with his executives (I was one of the student executives representing the student welfare) and in less than two days of the meeting, the light and water was restored.
This story shows that an arm of power run by the students is needed in order to represent their welfare because without this power (in the form of politics), there is little the students can do to influence the authorities.
Politics in my university is very exciting as two or more individuals compete for a seat of power with the declaration, “May the best man win”. Currently, there is an ongoing power tussle for the seat of the SUG treasurer and the competition is stiff. At the beginning, there were about 5 candidates contesting for that particular seat but right now, only two are in the game. It is more like a personal thing to me because I am whole heartedly supporting one of the candidates but may the best man win indeed.
I believe that participating in politics in the university will prepare you for life after university, you will make important connections and you will learn a lot of lessons that will be beneficial to you beyond the college walls. I would advice everyone to tune in to politics while in college in any little capacity you can get because it is not so much about the tussle as it is about the lessons and connections.
Lastly, am currently the campaign manager for my good friend Eze Henry Chiwetalu also known as big engine. He is contesting for a presidential post in the faculty of health sciences and technology in the university of Nigeria, Enugu campus.
I have been working tirelessly to ensure that he comes out victorious . The election is coming up soon and we hope that our strategy and hard work will make my candidate to win. One of the campaign strategy is to help all Students of the faculty of health sciences and technology to always keep fit. A fitness program was organized by me and my team to make this happen. This fitness program is scheduled to hold tomorrow and you all can see the flyer below with my candidate picture on it.
