Campus Connect Engagement Contest Week 2 - My Accomplishment And Failures So Far In The First Half Of 2022 And My Expectation For The Second Half
Doing one of the things that I love doing best - voluntary services
It feels like it was yesterday when I first received a call that ASUU has embarked on yet another industrial strike action. I thought that the news was a blessing in disguise as I was out of town and was going to be late for the day's lecture. Looking back at the past eighteen weeks that made up the first half of 2022, I feel a bit fulfilled that I had achieved a lot of things I wouldn't have possibly been able to do if the university was in session.
What I Achieved in the First Half of the year 2022 |
---|
At the beginning of the year, I shared my plans for 2022 which I had hoped to achieve. Interestingly, I have been able to do some more things than I had to plan for. Thus, developing myself and participating in some activities for the better good of society.
Volunteer Service
Apart from speaking to them, I volunteered to teach them how to play the Scrabble board game which I consider to be one of the most lucrative sports while other volunteers taught them different things.
Somehow this impromptu break affords me enough time to do the things I love doing most and this is offering voluntary services. On that faithful day when the strike commenced, I was rendering a voluntary service at a school where I address the students on “The Importance of Education in a Competitive World”. It did not end there, rather than sit at home, I came up with an idea which I relayed to members of Youth Limit Breakers, an NGO I work with. We all agreed on a 5-week project with the tag “Teacher's Aide Programme” (TAP). The project is set up by Team YLB to inculcate some basic values in children (pupils and students). TAP is an after-school club which focuses on helping pupils/students learn to ideate, develop good reading culture, foster team spirit and develop necessary soft skills. The programme educates children on the need to not only be book-smart but also be problem solvers. In the past three weeks, we have been able to achieve some good results and I do not regret every effort made towards making this a success.
NUGA 2022
(Left) Female doubles (Right) UNIUYO Scrabble team
As a scrabbler, my dream has always been to participate in sporting competitions. I did have numerous chances but had to push them aside, especially when they conflict with my schooling. So finally I had my first chance in the last NUGA Games held at Lagos. The game happened to fall on the week slated for the second-semester examinations. Despite getting a letter of release to be signed by the HOD, I still felt apprehensive about everything, but with the strike, I happily represented my school by joining the UNIUYO Scrabble team. We did not come top third, but we got some golden opportunities.
Studying
My academic studies have not been overlooked either as I got involved in the peer-to-peer study. Despite the strike, my friends and I have completely studied all the topics in the course outline for all our courses. The effort is very commendable since studying online without the supervision of lecturers requires a lot of discipline. Now we can proudly tell ourselves that we are almost prepared for the 2020/2021 second semester examination whenever school commences.
TECH101
TECH101 which was organized by The Roothub held on 16 - 20 May 2022. I got to learn how to use Canva, keep myself safe online, and then create and edit videos and pictures with my smartphone like the one I had shared. We were how to build a digital presence as it is very necessary for every business person. Here, I got to know of yugo.ng a social media similar to Facebook etc Finally, I got to know how to create a portfolio with ngage.ng. But that's not all as I am still taking more steps toward being technology savvy.
What Did I Fail at Achieving in the First Half of the year 2022? |
---|
Academics
I have failed woefully in my academics.
Yes! Not because I had poor grades, but because I am a victim of poor governance. One would not be pleased to remain in their penultimate year when they should be done with their finals. But I have to accept this sad reality.
Finance
With the current dip in Crypto coupled with the hike in prices of essential commodities, I have found myself spending more than I earn. Working multiple works is slowly taking its toll on my mental and physical health but what else can one do to survive?
What Are My Expectations for the Second Half? |
---|
- I hope that the industrial strike action will be called off soon.
- I hope to earn more since I need to buy exorbitant data and other commodities weekly for studies etc.
- Complete my UX design course.
- Keep getting involved in voluntary services despite financial constraints. I believe in living for humanity so humanity first.
- Achieve my written down goals and more.
- Save up for my next semester's tuition fees.
What will you do in the second half to make things work well? |
---|
- Work some more: The situation can be quite discouraging but it will not give room for me to be disheartened.
- Get some more rest as a freaking stressed body and mind cannot function excellently.
- Pray to God: There is nothing God cannot do and he will surely see me through by making my path to self-development and happy living clearer.
I believe that God who answers prayers will see me through since man exists only by his grace and favour.

Note delete that video, it has been blocked on copyright ground
Remarks:
Oh, okay.
I will remove it.
Okay.
I learnt from this.
Hello dear, please, I want to know why you set 10% beneficiary to ahaz who is not active? In your steemkids contest entry? The steemit team may not like it. The last engagement challenge in Steem4Nigeria, they spotted someone who was setting beneficiary to a user and they asked questions. And that denied that user his winning and voting chances.
Uh oh!
I wish I could contact you to explain the situation. I am try to support her account so she can be active once more. I have left @ngoenyi a message on her telegram account with a perfect explanation for my action.
