Information and Technology is eating at us and we don't even realize

Introduction

Good day to my fellow steemians and readers alike. It's Rasheed here again with another topic to debate on. I brought this up because it's a topic which has been on my mind for quite some time now so I decided to bring it here so we could all talk about it.

In this argument, I will most likely be using mobile phones because they are the embodiment of Information and communication technology.
In the modern era, we get exposed to alot of things both good and bad over the internet. Young children at the age of 7 up till people in their late 70s get mobile phones which puts them in grave danger while also being able to better their knowledge and understanding. Various examples of things that could happen to them getting mobile phones at that age include fraud, kidnapping, immorality. I will be giving an instance of how phones and other technological devices can lead to fraud.

Fraud

I don't know how they do it but thieves nowadays easily get access to most of your account details. They use their phones to call you and tell you how they are from your bank and that they want to upgrade your account. Due to the information they already have about you they just tell you a couple of things about yourself like the bank, the branch you registered in and so on inorder for you to believe them. They ask you for the digits on your card (ATM) so they can upgrade your account. If you are the ignorant type you might end up giving them and with just those few digits you told them they could wipe your entire account clean.

Kidnapping

As the world becomes more digitalized, even kidnappers have followed the trend. Let me give another instance, you as parents give your son a phone let's just say he is 10years old. You both leave for work and he gets bored at home. He enters facebook to chat with his friends. An unknown number texts him claiming to be his uncle. The supposed uncle tells him that a party where his favorite musician would be present is happening just around his street. The unknown number also says he should come out let them go to the party together. The boy believes and before you know it he is taking to a random abandoned house where he is held hostage and his parents are to pay a ransom.

Immorality

This particular one is aimed at children below the age of 18. I really love giving instances because it explains the term in a more interesting and understandable way so hope you are still enjoying this. Here is an instance of how phones promote immorality especially sexual immorality. A boy and his sister are at home aged 9 and 7 respectively. The boy goes online to download a game and lo and behold a porn ad pops up. Out of curiosity he clicks it to watch and after watching with his sister, he feels like recreating what he just watched with his sister. I know some of us might think this is impossible but all my instances are from past live stories. This particular disadvantage has alot of instances but I chose this one because it was very wrong. Imagine a children incest porn video circulating the internet.

Laziness and joblessness

In the cavemen era, everything was achieved with utmost hardwork. Activities like hunting, farming, making their own tools. Since trade by barter was used they often walk on foot or make use of beasts of burden to transport from one place to another. Nowadays, we do everything from the comfort of our homes, making us weaker and lazy. A modern man can travel on feet for just a few meters and get tired unlike in the past where they eventually got used to it. We don't even go to the mall to buy things nowadays we just order them. While some see this as advancement some others see it as serious Laziness.

When production became prominent and factories where newly being produced. One factory could employ atleast 1000 people thereby automatically creating employment opportunities but with the advent of information technology, a company or factory would employ about 60 people then machines do the rest. The huge rise in population coupled with the unavailability of jobs creates and avenue for all the evil we see in the society today. Everyone wants to make a living but due to joblessness they create their own ways of employment be it bad or good

Conclusion

This post wasn't made for the purpose of criticizing the technological advancements of man but was made to sensitize readers on the dangers such advancements pose to us and the society. I hope we all had a good read, the comment section is open you can drop your opinions.
