10 Mistakes You Should Avoid At School by @steemtopus | 10% to @campusconnectng

One of the best things about attending school is that you’re surrounded by others who are going through the same experiences as you, and all of them are learning from each other, whether it’s in the classroom or around campus. But there are some mistakes that you should try to avoid in order to make your time at school more successful and fun. Here are 10 mistakes to avoid at school so that you can enjoy yourself, get good grades, and truly learn something!

1) NOT KNOWING YOUR GOAL

Before you start school, it’s important to clarify why you want to pursue an education in your field. If you don’t have a clear goal in mind or if your goals are completely unrelated to what you’re learning, then you risk wasting time and money. Clarify your goals early on, and revisit them frequently as you continue through school; that way, when it comes time to make decisions about when or where to go next—whether its jumping into an internship or deciding which job offers are worth accepting—you can make sure that what you learn will ultimately help get you closer to where want to be.

2) PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is something we all face. Whether you’re trying to write a paper, study for an exam or work on a long-term project, there will always be times when you struggle to begin. But if you find yourself continually delaying tasks that need doing, it’s worth paying attention to what may be behind your procrastination. Perhaps more than anything else, procrastination can come from fear of failure or success; other common reasons are anxiety and perfectionism. Whatever your reasons for putting things off—or finding yourself unable to do them at all—you should take action right away to break free from procrastination cycles and get back on track with schoolwork.

3) MONITOR YOUR EATING HABIT

It’s easy to get distracted and forget about your eating habits when you’re at school, especially if you're juggling a full course load. Eating junk food will make it that much harder to concentrate on your studies, as well as damaging your health in general. Instead of skipping meals altogether, pack yourself a healthy lunch every day. That way, you’ll have time to digest before your afternoon classes and avoid hanger-induced meltdowns during exam week.

4) SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media is a blessing and a curse, right? While it can be a great way to connect with friends, it can also eat away at your attention span. If you want to finish all of your homework assignments and ace that test you have coming up, social media should play no part in your day-to-day routine. Don’t fall into the trap of spending hours on Facebook when you could be using that time more effectively (the library offers free WiFi if you really need to go online). If you’re spending too much time on social media, keep tabs on yourself by setting an alarm or having someone else remind you when it’s time to shift gears and get back to work.

5) NOT DOING YOUR HOMEWORK

When it comes to getting good grades in school, there’s only one rule you really need to remember: do your homework. If you don’t, you probably won’t be passing any of your classes. It sounds simple enough, but it can be pretty easy to fall off track—especially if you forget about a project or have a lot going on outside of class. Do yourself a favor and check in regularly with your teachers; if they see that you’re actively involved and making progress on assignments, they might be able to help keep you on track. Before skipping an assignment outright, consider whether it can be put off until later so that it doesn't derail other work that's due sooner.

6) BEING UNORGANIZED

As a student, organization is key to improving your academic performance. Being an organized student helps you get tasks done on time and allows you to take notes effectively. Create an organizing system that works for you, whether it’s color-coding your notebooks or using a scheduler/calendar to track assignments and deadlines. Being disorganized will only make things harder for you as a student. You’ll end up running late to class and missing deadlines, which are surefire ways to lower your GPA. To avoid these mistakes at school, be organized!

7) FALLING BEHIND IN CLASS

It’s easy to fall behind in a class if you aren’t paying attention. And as college students will tell you, missing lectures and tests is not an option. To stay on top of your schoolwork, set a schedule and stick to it! Use tools like iCal to remind yourself when exams are approaching. If you plan ahead, you’ll be less likely to stress out during exam time. With any luck, you'll learn from your mistakes and never make them again! As they say, failure is an event, not a person. So if you do slip up, don't beat yourself up about it. Just pick yourself back up and keep going! Remember: The key to success is getting back up after you fall down.

8) GIVING UP WHEN YOU GET STUCK ON SOMETHING

We all get stuck sometimes, even in school. When you’re faced with a problem and no obvious solution presents itself, don’t give up too quickly. Instead, spend some time trying to work it out by yourself—it can be a valuable learning experience in of itself. And if you really can’t figure it out, there’s nothing wrong with asking for help—you shouldn't let pride keep you from doing what needs to be done. In fact, it's okay to fail or fall behind occasionally; just keep at it and try not to make those mistakes too often! It'll all add up in your favor when exam time rolls around again.

9) SELF-DOUBT

Self-doubt can be a powerful force for creativity, but it’s also a giant pit you don’t want to fall into. When you question your abilities and feel as though your work isn’t good enough, it’s hard to imagine success and set goals. Instead of self-doubt, learn to focus on what you can control: develop a plan of action and take one small step toward your goal each day. Over time, your belief in yourself will grow stronger and self-doubt will be less likely to bog you down. Don't let self-doubt stop you from reaching your potential.

10) SLACKING OFF IN OTHER AREAS OF LIFE

Many people with high GPAs tend to slack off in other areas of life, like taking care of themselves, sleeping and eating. While it’s fine to take a study break every once in a while, don’t let your GPA slip because you’re too busy hanging out with friends or partying all night. This may be college, but you should still focus on keeping your health in check and having a well-rounded life outside of academics. Getting enough sleep and staying active is essential to maintaining good grades.

Conclusions

These are 10 mistakes you should avoid at school, and you'll hopefully find that when you avoid them, your life will be so much better. School is stressful enough as it is without constantly having to deal with certain issues. When you're in a good frame of mind, school becomes easier and more enjoyable because many of these mistakes tend to bring about stress and anxiety. The same can't be said for success and hard work; those things aren't easy or enjoyable—but they do pay off in spades! As Robert Frost once wrote: Nothing gold can stay. This applies to happiness just as much as it does anything else in life. So don't get too comfortable—don't let yourself slip into bad habits.

You're absolutely right.
One is meant to understand theese things to void regrets while in school.

Things like procrastination and being unorganized do easily pull students back or making them work under pressure due to the inability to address things when they should.

It is as if this post is speaking directly to me especially on the issue of procrastinating. That thing is a killer because you eventually don't do what you have set your mind on accomplishing. This is a must read post.

It can be different to be balanced in all areas of our life as students, but in the end, we will still come out fine. It's all about doing the little we can. I'm speaking mainly to myself🤦🏽‍♀️
