Good evening all. Welcome to my
blog o. Today I will be talking about Anaemia. I hope we all benefit from this post. enjoy 😘😘

What is Anaemia?

This is a medical condition whereby the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells to transport oxygen to where they are needed in the body. Patients who suffer from Anaemia are usually weak and tired due to the fact that these body organs do not receive enough oxygen that is needed. Most times their body is unable to regulate body temperature like it should, leaving the patients feeling cold most times.
There are different types of Anaemia but the most common types are iron deficiency Anaemia, vitamin deficiency and sickle cell Anaemia, all affecting the red blood cells.

Reason why people develop Anaemia.

This is a disease involving the red blood cells and haemoglobin so it is caused when there is a malfunction in the way red blood cells and haemoglobin need to function like when there is not enough red blood cells, your body cannot produce enough haemoglobin needed to transport sufficient oxygen to different organnels of the body or the body produces haemoglobin but it does not function as it's supposed to or the red blood cells present in the body breaks down quickly than is normal.
Lack of iron is a major factor that causes Anaemia. Iron is needed in the production of haemoglobin so when the body lacks enough iron, it is likely to develop Anaemia.
Loosing a lot of blood at once. This can also cause Anaemia.

People that are at risk of developing Anaemia.

The number one people on this list are women. Every month, women menstruate which is a flow of blood. Some have heavy menstrual periods while some have normal menstrual periods but in each menstrual period,a lot of blood is lost. Even during child birth, blood is lost so this makes women at risk of developing Anaemia.

Pregnant women are also at risk of developing Anaemia too. Due to the fact that you are carrying another life, your body needs double the normal dose of iron it normally consumes. When this dose is lacking, it affects both mother and child. It can lead to complications during child birth.

Then children especially infants are also at risk. As they are growing up their body consumes up iron thereby diverting the iron needed by the blood to make up haemoglobin.

Symptoms of Anaemia

Consistent headaches

Weakness

Dizziness

Paleness of skin

Hair loss

Dry or easily bruised skin.

Fast heartbeat.

How to prevent Anaemia

Taking food rich in iron supplements and other minerals that help in building red blood cells.
Eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables that contain a rich amount of all this minerals like iron, folic acid, vitamin B12 and the rest of them.

Taking in iron capsules regularly.

As a pregnant lady, be aware that your body now needs double the normal dose of iron so be sure to take a lot of iron supplements in order to insure a smooth problem free pregnancy.

Ladies should take a lot of iron rich foods after menstruating each month to help the body recover from the loss of blood it had.

Now this a tips to prevent Iron deficiency Anaemia and Vitamin deficiency Anaemia.
There are other types of Anaemia too that I didn't mention but those ones are usually inherited.

Now to prevent sickle cell Anaemia.

This is a different type of Anaemia that affects the shape of blood cells of the carriers. In this case the blood cells have the shape of a sickle. This case of Anaemia is really severe as the carriers develop severe lungs and heart complications.
Now the best way to prevent this is by knowing your genotype before marriage. This way you will avoid giving birth to a carrier of sickle cell Anaemia.
There is no current cure for sickle cell Anaemia so the carriers live their lives on medication. So for sickle cell Anaemia, prevention is better than cure.

Thanks for your time.
