Fellow steemians, I welcome you once again to my storyline. Today we are going to be looking at a character called Akuna. So enjoy yourself as I take you on a ride toward her story.

Akuna is a very young woman who came from a very small village called Akpata. In this village, any woman who gets pregnant out of warlock is stoned to death. This has been the custom and tradition of the people from the very beginning. So every woman tends to be more careful and doesn't get herself involved in any form of immoral act until she is married to a man.

Akuna is a very beautiful lady who was desired by all the young men in the land of Akpata. They come in turn to seek her hand in marriage but she normally declines. To her, she has not seen her match. Almost every young man in the land came and declare his consent to her but she always declines. There was this young man called Ovey, he is handsome and loved by every young lady in the land. He is every woman's desire, so he went and also declare his intention but Akuna still decline.

Ovey made a vow to himself that if he doesn't have her then no man will. He plotted and then ambushed her on her way to the farm, he powered some magical powder on her eyes and immediately she slumbered and fell to the ground. He took her right into the bush and then made love to her while she was still unconscious.

After the incident, he took her to her house and kept her on the bed and left. After about some hours, Akuna woke up and found herself on her bed but couldn't remember anything that happened. Weeks after weeks pass by, and Akuna started feeling feverish so she decided to visit the herbal doctor in her village who gave her some herbs to ease her stress.

Months later, Akuna's stomach started growing bigger it became something of a surprise to everyone because Akuna doesn't have any man in her life. The villagers noticing this mobilize the youth and they went to her house and drag her out to the market square where they are to stone her to death because she was pregnant without a husband.

Akuna cried and said she has never slept with a man before she doesn't know how this came about. After the elders made their final judgement and ordered the youth to start stoning her, Ovey appeared and stood in her defence. He said, she never impregnated herself, so instead of stoning her let them look for the man responsible and then stone them together.

All the youth stood confused because they are all scared of Ovey since he is the greatest warrior they have in the land. The elders asked him to step aside so that the order of their tradition can be executed but Ovey insist and said they should get to him before getting to her. After a series of arguments, they now ordered Ovey to come before the council of elders for more talks.

When Ovey arrived at the council of elders he insisted that instead of stoning her to death, she should be banished. The people respect him so much that they decided to give their opinion as regards the matter. They suggested, that Ovey should take Akuna and keep her in his house until she gives birth then after that they will decide what to do with her. Ovey accepted the offer.

While Akuna stayed in his house, Ovey confessed to her that he is the person that put her in the family's way. He pleaded with her and then she forgave him and they decided to get married even before she gave birth to the child. Immediately after she gave birth the elders summoned Ovey and said they want to decide about the issues of his wife because she initial desecrated the land but he pleaded with them and told them the truth that he was the person who put her in the family way.

He asked that instead of Akuna being killed, they should kill him instead. The village can not afford to lose such a great warrior at that moment so they pardon him and from that day women are not been stoned to death anymore anytime they find pregnant.

Conclusion

Every culture was made by man and man is the only person who can change the custom and traditions of the land. Ovey and Akuna have changed the ancient tradition of the people of Akpata. Today in the land of Akpata women are not been stoned for being pregnant because they are not the people that I'm pregnant themselves instead they both should be punished.
