YOUR MOST FREQUENTLY USED SOCIAL MEDIA APPLICATION : CONTEST.

Social media is very diverse with very many applications that are useful in one way or another be it entertainment, work etc. Social media can also be very useful if used wisely however it can also be very detrimental if used wrongly through acts like cyber bullying, stalking among others.

The application I use the most is YouTube. It was founded in 2005 by three gentlemen namely Steve Chem, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karin however it was later bought by Google. YouTube is available as a website and in application form. The main purpose of this application is to showcase video content. The content on YouTube is diverse.

There is music, educational, entertainment content as literally one can search for anything on YouTube and find it. I use YouTube for entertainment purposes because I love lifestyle and travel content. I also use it to learn new things like how to do makeup, look after my hair among others. Creators on YouTube are able to earn some money through the Adsense program and through paid partnerships with different brands.

YouTube has various features like YouTube studio which is also an app of its own where creators are able to read their analytics, shorts which is a new feature where videos of about 1 to 3 seconds are produced. YouTube has over 1 billion views literally everyday and its users are over 1 billion.

My next favorite application is TikTok. This app really blew up during 2020 during the lockdown however it had been around since 2016. It was founded by a Chinese company called ByteDance. This app is basically for people that enjoy short videos and have no patience for long videos.

One of the reasons I love TikTok is, basically on days when I am feeling a bit low I go to TikTok and as I am scrolling through I find videos that make me laugh and amuse me. TikTok has also piqued peoples’ creativity as videos have to be short and interesting therefore one has to make sure that they pass across their point quickly.

I love the various challenges on TikTok especially the dancing ones because they are so entertaining. The link to the application is here https://www.tiktok.com/en/
The main aim of TikTok is to inspire creativity and to spread joy and I think they have truly done that.
