MERITS OF COCONUT WATER; IN RELATION TO THEIR COMPOSITION AND ENZYMATIC ACTIVITY||CLUB100
INTRODUCTION
Hey guys , its another awesome time to share on an important topic with you guys. what gives us an edge in life is primarily knowledge.
Today , i will like to talk about coconut water. i decided to choose this topic because coconut water is known and common in our environment.
So we need to know so many things about it, to be able to utilize it very well.
COCONUT WATER
coconut water is a slightly sweet natural drink found inside coconut fruit . simply put, it is the liquid part of the coconut. its is low in sugar but rich in vitamins and minerals.
FORMATION OF COCONUT WATER IN THE COCONUT FRUIT
when coconut fruit is planted, at the third month , small quantity of coconut water is formed.
At 7 to 9 months , the amount of coconut water is plenty and reaches the maximum . at this stage the water has the sweetest taste but the flesh is usually tender . This is regarded as young coconut water.
At 10 to 13 months, the coconut water is regarded as mature coconut water. at this point the amount and taste of coconut water reduces, because some of the water will be used to form the flesh of the coconut fruits. The flesh taste sweeter but the water will not be all that sweet.
ACTIONS OF ENZYMES IN COCONUT WATER
first of all, i will like to define the meaning of Enzyme before i go into this sub-topic proper.
According to collins English Dictionary,
An enzyme is a chemical substance that is found in living creatures which produces changes in other substances without being changed itself. .
Bascially , coconut water has two enzymes namely;
A) Perioxidase
B) Poly phenol oxidase
Now what is the work of these enzyme? Remember that we defined enzyme as a chemical substance that produces change in a substance. now what these enzymes do is this. when the coconut fruit is opened , the water is exposed to air, of course the enzymes too are exposed to air because the are inside the water. as soon as the enzymes come in contact with the air (oxygen) , the coconut water will start loosing their nutritient and flavour.
in other words, as soon as the coconut is opened, the coconut water will start loosing nutrient and flavour.
it even changes the colour of the water to brown , this reaction is known as oxidation reaction.
This simply suggest that the coconut water is better consumed once the coconut is opened in other to get all the nutrients.
But in a case where by the we want to extend the length of time of the coconut water for a long term use or to even make a coconut water base product with it and possibly package it , the liquid has to undergo some strong heat treatment in other to resist the enzymes and also inhibit bacterial growth. The heating processes are Pasteurization, Sterilization and Ultra High temperature processing

COMPOSITION OF COCONUT WATER AND THEIR BENEFITS
Coconut water is made of 95% water with some amount of carbohydrate, protein, oil , vitamins , mineral, potassium, sodium and calcium
the carbohydrate in coconut water are sucrose, fructose and glucose. These are primary sugars and they account for the sweetness of coconut water
Protein: coconut water contains small amount of protein , which increases as the coconut mature
Vitamins: Coconut water contains Vitamin C and some vitamin B. The vitamin B content ranges from Vitamin B1,B2,B3,B5,B6 and B9
vitamin C makes the immune system stronger, it makes the skin to remain firm and youthful. it makes the bone and joint strong. it also protect the body against heart attack and cancer.
Vitamin B1: Aids in digestion, gives us more energy and helps the brain to function well. that means coconut water can serve as an energy drink, and it can be used to cure constipation
Vitamin B2: helps to maintain healthy skin, hair , nail and eyes. Wow ! this simply means consuming coconut water keeps our entire body healthy, including our sight.
Vitamin B3; it also gives us healthy skin, helps in brain function and increases energy. it lowers cholesterol and maintains blood sugar.
Vitamin B5: it also maintain healthy skin and hair, increases energy, control fat, and good for the brain. it also relieves stress.
Vitamin B6: for indvidual that experience some form of reaction after taking drugs, it controls the allergic reaction. it helps to balance sex hormone in otherwords it cures hormonal imbalance.
Vitamin B9: it reduces anemia during pregnancy that means it produces more red blood cells
There are other compositions of coconut water , but these are just the ones we will consider in this post.
These compositions clearly shows us the benefits of coconut water.
Now here some other benefits of coconut water

- it helps in weight loss. this is true because Vitamin B5 helps to control fat
2)As early said , coconut water is rich in potassium hence it reduces high blood pressure and it also lowers the risk of stroke but too much consumption of it will result in low BP.
3)it removes toxin from our bodies through our urine in otherwords it act as a detox. By flushing out toxin through urine, it cures urine infection
it relieves stress and gives energy to the body
drinking coconut water keeps us hydrated , this therefore gives us healthy skin. Also the presence of Vitamin C in coconut water increases the production of collagen , this collagen in return keeps our skin healthy and youthful.
And much more benefits.
RISK OF TAKING COCONUT WATER
coconut water rich in potassium , hence people with kidney disease should limit the way the take it
coconut water produces more energy in us, hence people that require low calorie diet should not consume it
CONCLUSION
Coconut water is not only good for our health but it also keeps our skin, hair and nails healthy. This suggest that making it part of our diet will be a good idea both for our well being and for those that want to achieve a healthy skin as well.
