I am currently a student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike(MOUAU) and in this post I will talk about my school and how things are done.

MOUAU is located in the south-eastern part of Nigeria. It is in Umuahia, Abia state. MOUAU was established in 1992 and since then has been performing well academically and otherwise.

MOUAU is basically an agricultural university. It was established to boost agricultural production in Nigeria both for domestic consumption and export.

Some of the documents required for admission into MOUAU include: Certificate of birth, Certificate of origin, WASSCE results, JAMB result, Medical certificate of fitness, Letter of attestation from your parents, Oath of good behavior, pledge form, Identity card and 12 passport photographs.

The JAMB cut-off mark is 160 but MOUAU has set a cut-off mark 180. The College of Veterinary medicine has a cut-off mark of 270 while every other college makes use of the 180 cut-off mark.

I am currently a 300 level student of Agricultural engineering. The school has been fairly nice to me. Since my admission in 2018, it has been all about hard work, but we keep on pushing hard. Nothing in life is ever easy, that is the spirit. We just have to learn to be resilient, hard working, persistent and committed if we are going to make it in this journey.

MOUAU has numerous hostels for both male and female students. There are also apartments outside the school premises where students can rent. Although it is not compulsory, some students prefer to live in the hostel while some other students prefer to live outside the school.
According to some students it is safer to live within the school because because they believe the school security is competent enough. Some people on the other hand would rather live 10 kilometers away from the school instead of living in the hostel. I must say, as an experienced student, living outside the school is actually better. That way you have your peace of mind and you are free to cook, unlike in the hostel where there are some limitations to what you can cook, how you cook, and where you can cook.

As a fresher, the fees to be paid are really much. The fees are: Acceptance fee- 50 000, school fees-60 000, association dues- 5000 to 10000.

Conclusion

As a student of MOUAU, I would sincerely advice anybody looking to get into MOUAU to be really hard working. MOUAU is mostly for science students who have a flare for agriculture and national development.
