I'll explain the differences between the PNG and SVG file formats in graphic designing in this post as a lesson for you guys.

Despite the fact that there are numerous output format kinds used in graphic design. The PNG and SVG file formats utilized by Adobe Illustrator are my topic of discussion today.

In this lesson, I'll go over to discuss the meaning of both file (PNG or SVG file) and explain the differences between the two file. Additionally, you can as well practice it to help you understand it better.

What is PNG and SVG file format?

PNG, which stands for Portable Network Graphics, is the most popular loss-free image compression format on the computer. It was developed as an open standard to replace the GIF (Graphical Interchange Format). It also offers file data compression and is a raster graphics file format. SVG, which stands for Scalable Vector Graphics, is an a double vector picture format for XML that supports animation and interactivity. SVG images can be made and also offer the ability to be edit with any text editor or any other graphic software because they can be compressed, scripted, or indexed.

Let me show you an example;

As you can see from the two images above, there are significant differences between the SVG and PNG file formats that we use for designing.

I'll list out some of the main difference between this two file format

PNGSVG
PNG files are non editableSVG files can be edited anytime
PNG files are raster imagesSVG files are vector images
When you zoom in or out on a PNG image, distortion will happen.Since SVG is a vector-based format, the image maintains its clarity whether you zoom in or out.
PNG files are extracted using png.comWhile SVG files are extracted using svg.com

The image above is the SVG image, you'll notice some changes in the colours, as you can see, I easily edited the SVG file and changed its color to suit my tastes. Since it is editable and useful for the future, your customers may occasionally ask you to provide them with SVG files for that purpose. On the other hand, a PNG file cannot be edited; it is the finished product of a design or other non-editable item. For creating purposes, various file formats are utilized for this reason.

I hope you enjoyed the previous and can now distinguish between PNG and SVG file formats. I appreciate you reading.
