Is Education Really a Scam? Nigeria's System of Education

in CampusConnect2 years ago

Undoubtedly, writing this article and having you read it at this very moment would have been extremely difficult without the knowledge we've gained through our numerous schools and teachers. I am aware that education serves as a platform for investment with the hope of reaping rewards in the future through jobs for which education is the primary source key. Education isn't just intended to be a means of acquiring knowledge, I understand this.

When an objective or aim of anything is thwarted or proves to be untrue after effort has been put into it, we referred to it as a scam. From what little I know, education aims to achieve a number of objectives, primarily those I've already listed. Education is considered a scam or a waste of time if any of these objectives aren't achieved any more.

Contrary to other countries where these educational objectives are greatly attained, I will say that this is not the situation in my country. In my country, we've seen many graduates who have good knowledge and are intelligent on the inside but aren't employed and can't afford money to pay their bills even though they've finished school. And we have some people with excellent jobs, yet they are unable to speak in front of others due to their inadequate scholastic preparation or lack of understanding. However the typical advantage of education is that it gives you access to knowledge and a platform to apply it so that you can feed your family and yourself.

My country, Nigeria, is a prime example of these unfavorable outcomes of education; you can find graduates without employment opportunities to support themselves, and you will then find people in high positions in organizations that are not a good fit for them despite their lack of knowledge, but no one will speak out against this because of the corrupted system of government. Youths are now left with no choice but to believe the common phrase "Education is a scam", which is indeed the case.

This is due to the government's careless approach to education, which gradually undermines the positive effects of knowledge gain. The Nigerian University Staff Association (ASUU) has been on strike for more than 10 weeks. As a result, students are unable to attend class, and the government has not complied with the demands made in order to end this strike. As a result, a four-year course has now become a six-year. After all of these struggles, you will return to the workforce with your diplomas only to discover that there are no jobs available.

This is a serious level of educational failure in my country, Nigeria; the current circumstances have caused many young people there to lose interest in returning to school; people no longer benefit from their degrees; instead, hand work is now a significant source of income; therefore, why won't we view education as a scam when a graduate will graduate from university with a first-class grade and then return to work as a sales manager in boutique stores..

The Solution

Every issue has a solution, and I believe that eliminating poor governance is the best way to defeat this problem. Although poor administration has led us to believe otherwise, education is incredibly important.
Our educational system in Nigeria is no longer dynamic, which is another effect of bad government. Finding research labs and venues where graduates from these courses can apply their knowledge is particularly difficult after attending school to study courses like microbiology. To be able to manage these issues, especially in our country Nigeria, a government that prioritizes education is required. Otherwise, these problems will keep giving rise to more challenging problems.
