UNIVERSITY IS NOT JUST ABOUT CERTIFICATE

Hey everyone,

Welcome to my blog.

It's not surprising that the majority of us view graduation as such a significant milestone. For many reasons—whether you're applying for a job, graduate school, or just acquiring life skills in general—having a degree in hand is a terrific accomplishment to have.

Having a degree to prove your perseverance in college is worth a thousand words, if not more. This is particularly true for this year's graduates, who are eager to complete their degrees and prepare for the many difficulties that come with graduation, such as the ongoing Asuu strike.

However, there is much more to your senior year than just graduation. There is more to college than just getting a degree. Graduation is a big deal, and I'd encourage everyone to celebrate it anyway they see fit, but that isn't what universities are for.

Objectives of University

While it's true that broadening your professional skill sets for work is essential and that having a degree opens numerous doors, exploring universities offers so much more. One of the few chances in life to fully realize oneself is in college.

During your time in college, you can discover more about your interests. You know that one arithmetic lesson you're struggling with? Maybe after you get through that difficulty, you'll have a fresh interest in math.

Or perhaps you thought you'd enjoy that one English lesson since you're so good at it, but it turned out to be really boring and you'd prefer to take a more difficult course.

Before choosing a major in your first year, you might decide that you aren't interested in computer science after all, but theater is fascinating, and the improve club meeting you attended has caught your eye.

Maybe you decide to double major in anthropology halfway through your communication degree after attending a guest presentation by a professor in the department. If you hadn't taken the classes necessary for your major or those that filled in the gaps in your major's credit requirements, you wouldn't have learned these things or anything else you know now.

In university, you can also pick up knowledge about people from other backgrounds. Young adults who are just starting out in life and who are unsure about what they want to do after graduation may live in your resident halls, off campus, or at home with relatives.

You might also run into older people who are wanting to go back to school, some of them are married, some have kids, some have served in the military, some have worked before, etc. You might come across someone who has already started making plans for medical school and has known since middle school that she wants to be a chemist.

You might also run into someone who has been a parent for ten years but is now going back to school for a technical writing degree.

Among the people you might encounter are international students studying abroad, first-generation college students, transfer students who attended polytechnics or other schools before enrolling at their current institution, and students from all walks of life.

In university, you won't ever meet someone who is exactly like you; instead, you'll learn about people from all over the world who are all there for different but related reasons. Undoubtedly, one of those objectives is self-discovery.

There are essentially no restrictions on what you can learn in college. At the end of the day, you probably won't care about your grades, how well you performed in your classes, or when you graduated. I hope it matters to you that you got the most out of your time in college. Isn't it true that living is about appreciating each moment as it comes?
