Is Education A Scam❓

in CampusConnect2 years ago (edited)

Education as a “scam” is a hypothetical concept often expressed by some people who think that gaining knowledge and training in educational institutions is a complete deception, a waste of time, money and resources.

Why? Because most of them, after crossing the four walls of the center, find it difficult to find white jobs even though they are studying art. For example, a critical 7 year medical student at a Nigerian university, may end up working as a dispatcher because of limited opportunities in the country. Yes, it is sad but that blame the government!

At universities, teachers, with the aim of developing the students' mood, often tell them that they can work anywhere with their degrees regardless of whether they are studying non-professional subjects. Meanwhile and to the detriment of the student, job opportunities are limited to teaching activities where they only receive peanuts. Also, criticize that government!

In addition, it is believed that the information obtained from educational institutions in many cases does not really apply to foreign countries. For example, some claim that “dy / dx” solutions are not the solution to real health problems such as; unemployment, hunger, insecurity, corruption, to name a few. Thus, these people feel cheated, thus concluding that “Education is a scam”. And honestly, I can't really blame them.

But before jumping to conclusions, we might ask ourselves, 'What is education really?' Is education limited to the information we receive legally at institutions? Well, let's find out:

According to Wikipedia,

"Education is a process of facilitating learning, or acquiring knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs, practices and personal development. "

On top of this, I would like to quote Will Durant;

"Education is the continual discovery of our ignorance."

Also, in the words of Brigham Young;

“Education is the power of thought, the ability to excel in secular work and the power to value life.”

My opinion;
Education is not just the knowledge we get from school but what we learn from life experiences, illiteracy, self-discipline and how we apply that knowledge in our daily lives.

That is why as Mark Twain once said;

"I will never let my education interfere with my education."

There is no doubt that education has, in a sense, been a positive force in our lives and in the development of all of us. Thanks to education, we are smarter, smarter and better than ever.

So now, that brings us back to the question; "IS EDUCATION A SCAM??" My answer is NO!
Education was not, of course, never and never will be a scam! So we should not just look at it differently and make a general sense of education. That will simply make us illiterate.

An additional reason why I strongly believe that education is not a scam is that, without education, we would still be living in ancient times. If man had never had the sense to think, discover and learn new things, humanity would still be in ignorance today and the amazing new things, evolution and technology we are acquiring now would not have existed in the first place.

Just as schooling is important, education is also important. So let's be careful not to misunderstand both of them.

In fact, I believe the real scam is learning in an educational institution and leaving you uneducated. That is why most people are still in darkness. They fail to educate themselves out of context.

In addition, let us also remember that the main purpose of education is the important development of the individual and the community where people are aware of their rights and responsibilities. Therefore, education is a necessity for health and is an important part of growing up.

For all intents and purposes, Nelson Mandela was not adamant when he said;

“Education is the most powerful scale that you can use to change the world."

And my sincere advice to you, is to keep educating yourself, be it formal or informal, at home or at school because YOU CAN change the world one day!

The fact is that, as long as human existence continues, learning can never end.

The main purpose of education is for the development of an individual and society. Without having a white-collar job, people can still apply the knowledge gotten from the formal and informal forms of education to solving real life problems.

Yes exactly, you are correct

I've heard stories of talented individuals studying subjects they're passionate about, like art or medicine, but ending up in completely unrelated jobs due to limited opportunities. It's a tough pill to swallow, and it's easy to point fingers at the government for not creating favorable conditions.
Sometimes it feels like teachers and professors build up our hopes, assuring us that our degrees will open doors anywhere, regardless of the field. But then the reality hits, and we realize that job options are more limited than we thought, often leading to low-paying gigs. It's enough to make anyone feel cheated and question the whole education system.
If you're curious about the value of specific degrees, you might find this article on https://www.collegeranker.com/is-a-marketing-degree-worth-it/ worth a read. It explores the benefits and considerations of pursuing a marketing degree, shedding light on the potential value it can bring to your career.

Despite the fact that it's not always easy, I respect education as well. I had a thesis due immediately soon and had no idea how to properly complete it. I discovered a letter of recommendation writer that made it easier. I'm sure I'll complete it shortly and show my work to prospective employers.
