Majority of students engage in side hustle in order to earn some extra cash to solve some needs. These side hustles are becoming a necessity for most students. However, it is never easy to balance school life and side hustle. It can be a really demanding task.

What is your side hustle?

One of my side hustle is Steemit. I joined Steemit this year and it has been a cool source of income. Because of how demanding school is for me, I wanted a side hustle that I could do online. This way it was easier for me to balance academics and work. So far, Steemit has been a nice journey.

My other side hustle is that I work as an ambassador for some blockchain/crypto projects. I am usually given several tasks such as promoting the project on social media, writing articles online, translating their articles. I am also a moderator for their telegram and discord groups.

How do you merge both side hustle and education on campus ?

Like I mentioned earlier, it is not easy to merge both, especially if you're studying a tedious course. However, it is possible. What I do is that I go for lectures and other school activities in the mornings and when I get back in the afternoon, I get some rest and begin work by evening. I usually work really late into the night. I write all the articles I need to write for both Steemit and my ambassador role during that period. Sometimes, I even stay awake all night.
Furthermore, when I get a little break period in between lectures, I work a little. It helps me do more.

How many hours do you work a week on your side hustle?

I can say that on week days, I work an average of 10 hours per day. I try to maximize my time on weekends. So I do so much work during the weekends. Perhaps, I work about 18 hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

Conclusion

I chose to do online jobs because it offers me some flexibility. I could go for school activities and still work anytime I am free. This is usually not possible with physical jobs, coupled with the fact that my school is very demanding. Another thing worthy to mention is that during exam periods, I suspend work for the mean time and focus on the exams properly. After exams, I resume my side hustle.

The importance of these side hustles cannot be overemphasized, especially now that the nigerian economy is in a horrible state. It has become essential for students especially those whose parents are not so buoyant financially.
