5 Easy Ways To Improve Your English Vocabulary

in CampusConnect3 years ago (edited)

You might got to have noticed at some point that learning new words to help improve your vocabulary, goes a long way towards giving you more creative control over the way you construct your own sentences. Actually allowing you to make or construct the same sentence in a wide variety of ways.
Now, these methods I'll share with you might seem a little bit different, but they are guaranteed to help you improve your English vocabulary and in turn make your overall English and communication more efficient and effective.
Needless to say much, let's dive right into it already.

5 Easy ways to improve your English vocabulary include:

1. Give Out Compliments To People

All of us, humans, are facing one problem or the other in our various lives. So we might usually get sad, angry, tired or moody. In such a scenario, imagine if someone were to come up to you and say, 'You have quite a beautiful smile'. It just makes your day, lol 😅
So learn at least one compliment word everyday and use it for everybody you meet each day.

Example: Infallible

  1. You totally killed the speech out there. You were infallible for, like the whole time.

  2. Jim, I don't know if you're aware, but you're totally infallible at maths.

  3. What an incredible performance by the ballerinas. They were just infallible the whole time.

If you actually learnt and used at least one compliment word a day on everyone you met. Not only will you remember the word for the rest of your life, but you will also make the person's day you used it on, thus making yourself more likable and attractive.
If you actually want to impress me, don't forget to tell me how infallible you think this post is in the comments section, lol 😅

2. Read A Story Every Night Before Sleeping

Don't let those folks that say only nonfiction books are useful influence your choice of reading. I mean, like, do you really want to read '7 Habits Of Highly Effective People' right before going to sleep, lol 😅
At night you should want to relax your mind, and good and interesting stories are just ideal for reaching these desired levels of comfort and relaxation.

Most parents around the world would read stories to their kids at bedtime, because it teaches them new words, it makes them creative and also puts them to sleep.
So the next time you're in bed at night, instead of spending 2 idle hours on your phone. Pick up a nice fiction novel, or search for one online that will help relax your mind, and trust me when I say this, 'It will so definitely improve your vocabulary, too'.
If you're still new to reading stories and want to know what storybooks to start off with, I'd recommend reading 'Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone' — J.K. Rowling or even better, get on the internet and search for more awesome storybooks and novels that suit your taste.

3. Entertainment!

It's quite understandable that we all need entertainment almost every day of our entire lives. But do we necessarily have to watch celebrity lifestyle videos all the time, No? Or how many more times will you get to watch 'Expectation Vs Reality' videos on the internet, lol.
If you're aiming to learn new words and improve your vocabulary, then you might just want to choose your entertainment even more carefully. For example, you should watch movies like 'The Shawshank Redemption' or watch TV series like 'Shark Tank', because they not only entertain you, teach you new words, but they also make you think even more smartly.

4. Read Or Listen To News

Instead of constantly logging into social media to spend lots of idle time, pick up a newspaper if you like reading your news the old fashioned way or turn on your TV or radio or jump right on the internet and head right into the newsfeeds.

Doing this keeps you updated throughout the day, it saves your time, and if you're using your phone you can easily Google the meaning and usage of new words.

5. Convert Your Regional Language Catchphrases To English Words

For example, in my regional language catchphrase, I'd say 'Your money dun drop?', it's English equivalent being, 'Have you received your fait payment?'.
By doing this, I might have just learned a new English phrase. When you start converting your regional catchphrases to English words, you'll learn not one, but multiple words and thus build your own personal vocabulary.

I hope the information provided in this post has been totally helpful towards improving your personal vocabulary.

Thanks For Reading Through
