Is Self Upvote Good or Bad

Here on steemit blockchain voting is a way we show our appreciation for good content and dissatisfaction for a bad one as well know to be able to understand or grasp what self-upvote is we need to first grasp what voting is and the kinds of voting we have.

What Is Voting

Well in a very simple term i believe voting is the process of exercising our stake weighted influence power(SP) on a post either because of admiration for the post or great disdain maybe because the contents is harmful to the society. So a person could choose how to exercise this power either in the form of upvote or downvote. Now let's talk about this kinds of voting.

Upvoting

This involve using our stake weighted influence power to distribute reward on a post. Usually when we upvote a post it is because we find this post to be good and of quality, one that will no doubt contribute to the overall growth of the community and be one that we all will benefit from. We upvote post we look upon with favour. and when we upvote this said post it allows the reward to flow from the reward pool so to speak to the post that is being upvoted. Like the image above depicts when we click on the green upward icon we are upvoting.

DownVote

This is the process of using our stake weighted influence power to redistribute rewards from the reward pool. In downvoting the rewards of the post is not being distributed to authors of the post but rather it is being redistributed back to the system or community as the case might be. In DownVote one does not earn any curation reward. One might choose to DownVote a post because such a post is harmful to the society probably a plagiarized post is one type of post that could be downvoted. We do this by clicking on the red drop down icon as the image above depicts.

Now that takes us to the question what is self upvote and is it a good or bad social behaviour

Self-upvote My Take On It

Well this falls under upvoting. The only difference here is that in this self-upvote it is the individual who upvotes their own post. Now ordinarily when our post are voted by curators it must have passed an integrity test and be found to be of the general good of the community and a good article then such curator we now exercise his stake weighted influence power (SP) on the post to distribute reward from the reward pool to the author of the post. Making the author to know he is doing well.

Self upvote on the other hand is using our stake weighted influence power to distribute reward from the reward pool to ourselves, now we may not see this as bad social-behaviour because we might feel why can't i vote on my own post when i have the SP to do that?

Well the reason is this, when our post is upvoted by others it help us to know that we are doing well on the blockchain and if not it help us to know that we need to make improvement or keep working harder but now when we take it upon ourselves to upvote our own post we may not know if we are doing enough or not because to us it doesn't matter whether we receive upvote or not we could easily vote for ourselves, now why this might be bad is it will make us not to work hard enough to create quality contents since we feel we could easily vote for ourselves if others do not.

Now this attitude in itself is bad because we could easily post plagiarized contents which ordinarily won't be upvoted but ofcourse we will upvote it ourself, this could make us not to care if our contents are plagiarized or not or if it causes other harm to the community because we can easily upvote it. Now plagiarism is bad and if because we feel we could easily upvote our post and no longer pays attention to the contents we are putting out then i believe strongly that this is harmful and a bad social-behaviour.

Now also another reason why i believe self upvote is bad is because we have voting manna, the more we vote a post it will reduce, now since we are only focused on voting for ourself this will make us fail to show appreciation for the quality content of others because at the end of the we would have wasted our voting power on ourself and this behaviour right here is not aimed at contributing to the overall growth of the community is very selfish and fail to achieve the goal of what this community is all about teamwork. So for this i really do believe that this self-upvote is not a good Social behavior.

Conclusion

Well this is my take and personal opinion i believe if we make use of our stake weighted influence power to look for quality and creative content to upvote and better distribute our PoB reward and if we avoid self-upvoting and instead use this to reward good content it will contribute to the massive growth of this our decentralized platform.
