" What exactly is Ayurveda "?. We might have heard the term Ayurveda or probably this is your first time, please stick around to read this article because we are going to be explaining what Ayurveda is, and some essential medical plants we probably don't know of.

According to ancient Indian knowledge of medicinal plants, Ayurveda was derived from plants' medical properties, which were described in Rigveda and Atharvaveda. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda or Ayurvedic medicine is the term for the traditional medicine of ancient India, Ayur means " life " and Veda means " science ". Ayurveda means the science of life or the science of healing, it is the holistic form of health practices that honors the mind, body, and spirit. It encompasses diet, lifestyle, herbs, cleansing and detoxification, and even yoga. Ayurveda is now widely practiced in parts of Asia and stayed the most preferred type of medical service.

Most of the mentioned medicines in Ayurveda originated from plants and animals. Ayurvedic spices and herbs are very important, they're thought to protect your body from sickness and propositions, an assortment of medical advantages, including further developed processing and psychological wellness.

The following are Ayurvedic spices and herbs with science-supported medicinal benefits.


1. AMLA

Amla also referred to as Indian gooseberries or Emblica, are mostly found in parts of Asia, Amla is very useful in herbal medicine, particularly in India, a sour fruit that is very hard and smooth in appearance. Amla is highly rich in vitamin C(vitamin C is an antioxidant). Due to its high level of vitamin C, Amla has anti-aging benefits and also prevents the growth of cancer cells. Antioxidant substances prevent the cells from being damaged. Amla helps to promote hair growth, prevent the breakdown of collagen, and improve eye cells for better vision.

Amla also contains a high concentration of minerals such as potassium, sodium, and amino acids than apples. Apart from being an antioxidant, Alma also has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral importance, Alma is very useful in any disorders in the digestive system and it is considered a treatment for cough and jaundice, most importantly Alma helps the body to produce a neurotransmitter that helps to improve brain functioning.


2.ASHWAGANDHA

Ashwagandha(Withania somnifera), also referred to as winter cherry or Indian ginseng, grows in India and some parts of Africa. Ashwagandha is a popular Ayurvedic plant for treating any disease. Ashwagandha is use

  • as anti-inflammatory i.e, they are used to relieve pain such as headaches, and painful periods.
  • as anti-stress i.e, they are used to stress and anxiety.
  • to improve scalp circulation and also get rid of dandruff which helps in hair growth.
  • for the treatment of psoriasis.
  • to boost the immune system.
  • as an Aphrodisiac, (any substance that increases sexual pleasure or performance).

3. GINGER

Ginger is one of the most widely used Ayurveda plants, Ginger is mostly cultivated in southeast Asia, India, Japan, and Africa. Ginger is popularly used for cooking, it is rich in vitamins such as vitamin B, C, thiamine, and Niacin also rich in minerals such as calcium, and iron. Ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, use in the treatment of nausea, cough, stomach pain sore throat. Ginger also aids digestion, supports the immune system, and reduces the risk of growth of cancer cells.


4. VALERIAN

Valerian, a flowering plant that grows in Asia, Europe, Jamaica, and North America. The roots and rhizomes of valerian are used for medical purposes such as the treatment of insomnia, fatigue, blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. Valerian is used in Ayurveda as a mild sedative, and also it's

  • used to stimulate menstruation
  • used to improve Menopausal symptoms, Menstrual issues, and Restless legs syndrome.

However, there are some uncommon side effects of taking valerian. Side effects such as headache, stomachache, etc


5. BOSWELLIA

Boswellia, also known as Indian olibanum, Indian frankincense, or Salai guggul. Boswellia has amazing health benefits, it is used as an anti-inflammatory, relieve pain, and treatment of chronic illness such as asthma, and arthritis.
Research shows that Boswellia treats certain cancer cells such as leukemia and breast cancer.



Conclusion


Ayurveda creates a balance between the body, mind, and spirit to promote good health and proper wellbeing; whenever there is an imbalance between them, the body might experience any sort of illness. The whole idea of Ayurveda is to promote good health rather than fight disease, most of them are highly rich in vitamins and minerals and use as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiviral.
