Today in this wonderful community I would like to make a post about all we need to know about unemployment

As we all know the issue of unemployment is the most serious problem encountered by our Nation Nigeria. A very great amount of educated and uneducated people loiter about In search of some jobs, they are willing and able to work but can't find a job. There is scarcity of jobs in cities,towns and even villages

CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN NIGERIA
Nigeria which is known as the giant if Africa, should have a very large economy able to employ nearly all jobless citizens. But unfortunately the rate of job scarcity In Nigeria is alarming, and here are four of the major causes of unemployment

• Poor electricity or power supply

Lack of uninterrupted power supply is a major cause of job scarcity in Nigeria.
Many companies outside the country that would love to invest in this country which would have made many jobs available to Nigerians to reduce unemployment but rather change direction to other countries with better electric supply in order to avoid operating at a loss with 24 hours running of generators.

The same problem has affected many local companies who could not cope with the expensive cost of electric plants/generators and thus forced to fold up and throw all their employees in the labour market.
Including self employed Nigerians like welders and welding related workers who need high electric current which only public power or bigger generators can provide, many of such thrown into unemployment as they could not afford bigger generators in the absence of public power for their line of work

• Lack of quality education

Every year a thousand of graduates come out of higher institutions and colleges of education in Nigeria with little or nothing to contribute to the society.
According to world wide research statistics More than 200000 alumnae graduate from Nigeria tertiary institutions yearly. But only few secure jobs after graduating, this is because there are Inadequate facilities.

Lecturers who rendered poor services to students in higher institutions and so the students come out of school half baked, without practical background to contribute to the society neither are they able to defend the results in the certificate in which they have attained

Another problem that is similar to that of poor quality education as a cause of unemployment in Nigeria is lack of skills.

For many years running most Nigerian youths have disdained learning or acquisition of skills thinking that the time spent for acquiring skills is wasted and opting for easy ways of making money. With such mentality these graduates have grown into middle age without any skill to generate income and then they become liabilities to themselves and others

Nigeria as a country is blessed with many unused resources which are sufficient to gainfully engage almost every unemployed person. But the desire for quick oil money has made both individual and government to focus only on industries

Due to financial problems a lot of industries had to let go of a lot of employees and many companies closed down for not being able to cope with the expenses of debt. Due to this a lot of individuals have been thrown to the labour market.

The solution in this case for people is to start being self employed or creating their ventures. The financial problems may have reduced job opportunities but it also creates need that were not present before. And these need could be the biggest job opportunities for people to escape unemployment

• Build general skills

Soft skills always have been and always will be relevant even after a financial problem, the world will not stop eventually jobs will reopen, however priorities are now different. Unemployed people will have to build skills based on what the world needs right now.

• Build digital skills

This particular step is probably the most well promoted over recent years and for a good motive. Digital inventions is an inevitable future for the world if business. Irrespective of what your business might be, wholesale services or anything else you will need to have a strong digital footprint and you will need to know how to sustain it

• Take internship opportunities

Internship used to be just a way to add some experience to your resume. Now they are better
than that , through internships individuals get the privilege to learn how new types of businesses operate. Simultaneously they are given the opportunity to learn a job, acquire expertise and perhaps even gain employment in the company they intern for.

• Keep educating yourself

Irrespective of what your career choice might be Education will never stop being an essential
factor in your life. If you want to build a bright career and if you want to make yourself as marketable as possible you must find the perfect educational opportunities for you.

These few solutions may seem very hard but they are simple than what you might think. It is important that you take time to think about what you want to do with your life.

CONCLUSION

The national problem of unemployment affects a large number of people in Nigeria especially a youth generation who are the future leader of our country. This the results of unemployment comes in the form of no development of the nation. The government should take actions and steps to reduce the rate of unemployment in Nigeria.
