Hi Positive Steemians,

A landscape of the Annex Campus.

Thus, we have concern for education, education system and educational facilities.

A spacious and well structured faculty.

So it is very accurate to talk about what changes can be made in our campuses across the country.

Private entrance to the town campus.

So, I will be writing about my own campus and then maybe generalize it to all the other campuses in Nigeria.

This is one of the many beautiful structures in my campus.

My campus is that of the University of Uyo located in Uyo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria. It is a very prominent and highly sought after institution of learning.

As a Federal University (Owned by the Federal Government), it has a very good ranking in many areas.
University of Uyo, popularly called Uniuyo is a great school. Many Nigerians come here seeking admission to study in field or another. The university has undergone tremendous transformation to attain its present status.

From a college of art and science to a teachers training college, it metamorphosed to the renown Unicross when the state was yet to be created and finally to the University of Uyo as we have it today. What an intriguing and captivating history and prestige the university boasts of.

One of the few relaxation spots. There are about just three in the whole of the annex campus. I believe there should be more.

This glorious university has as at present three distinct campuses. There is the town campus which was the inaugural home of the university. Later the annex campus lying across from the town campus was added to it. These two campuses are located in close proximity to each other along Ikpa Road in Uyo.

The third campus, which happens to be the main campus, sometimes referred to as the permanent campus or permanent site by most people is rather separated from these other two and is some distance apart. This will be referenced later as we proceed.

In truth, University of Uyo is a big university in all ramifications. It has a very credible reputation in terms of academic excellence. Uniuyo also has a couple of standard buildings and infrastructure though as adequate as it should be.
Uniuyo has thirteen faculties which are all well situated though some of them still lack some basic features which I will discuss subsequently.

So, the first thing I want to be changed in my campus is the high cost of everything in Uniuyo. Though in truth, the school fees is not as high as compared to most universities even federal universities, yet other things are quite expensive. Starting from the acceptance fee, Uniuyo charges a very high acceptance fee on offer of admission.

A good number of fresh students find it quite exorbitant and experience great difficulties in paying this high fee. As a result a large number have forfeited their hard earn admissions.

Accommodation is also a problem financially. The hostel space is quite expensive to acquire leading to high number of squatters. Also, the general cost of living around this campus is on the high side. These should be looked into a remedied.

Structurally, Uniuyo has a lot to do. I am still at loss as to why the university will prefer to be erecting bungalows instead of raising high buildings.

Bungalow classrooms which cause congestion and rancor.

With the evident lack of space and the mammoth population of the students, the buildings should be made to best suited to the available space.

The only male hostel in the two campuses at Ikpa Road. You can imagine the congestion inside.

There is a serious problem of congestion in University of Uyo both in the classroom and for hostel space.

Old bungalow structures used as girls hostel.

In fact there is only one make hostel space for the two campuses at Ikpa Road. There are other pressing needs for proper buildings and other facilities.

Dead trees and tree stumps without new ones being planted.

For the environment around the university, there are serious needs for changes. The university authority should consider environmental best practices.
IMG_20210514_070634_625.jpg
Fallen trees every here and there.

In terms of landscaping, planting of trees ( which is greatly missing), proper refuse disposal and building of internal roads. Many trees that have outlived their span.

IMG_20210514_065934_458.jpg
These animal pens are located quite close to the classrooms which is not very ideal as foul smell usually penetrate the classes and causes discomfort to the students.

In terms of lecturers, University of Uyo is blessed with wonderful intellectual lecturers who know their onions. Here, you will find a compact group of experienced and seasoned lecturers.

However, the work load placed on a particular lecturer seems to be much and should be reduced.

Unfortunately, these environmentally friendly trees have not been replaced. This is not nice.

IMG_20210514_070158_169.jpg
Refuse dump right in the middle of the campus. Very unhealthy.

Also, the incessant duping of refuse is not healthy and Should be discouraged.

IMG_20210514_070456_984.jpg
A refuse dump located among the girls hostel. Very worrisome is the fact that it is close to where girls get their breakfast.

In University of Uyo the student's union seem to be working. on own though they have really tried over the years. If they could be making information more available to the people, they would have a stronger opinion of the Union.

University of Uyo has two major pitches for football and other sport. However, football seem to be ths most appreciated sport here. The first field at the town campus is is bit ok. It has a well marked field and spectators stand. Though the it is very small.

IMG_20210514_065527_277.jpg
This is the annex campus sport field lying bare without any facilities for other sports and games. No stand for spectators too and no markings.

At the annex campus, there is not even a place to stand talk less of facilities others sports. With this evidence, it is necessary for the university to upgrade her sporting arena.
Since one campus is quite father away from the other two, students make use buses to get to this campus.

IMG_20210514_071555_406.jpg
Buses used students to the permanent campus.

Many times, some students can not afford it. So, the school should at least provide free transportation once in while for the students.
So great guys, even though I have so much liking for my University, I am confident that if she can improve in the areas listed above, we could be better.
