Hello Everyone, it's Ace sending his warm greetings to all steemians alike. So today we would be looking at a learn with steem special which focuses on the soil. I would be sure to keep it simple and professional so that readers can easily understand it as possible. I'm sure some of us have written off soil Science as an easy and unnecessary course but I am here to prove you all wrongly. Make sure to learn a thing or two from this post as it would be a promising one.

WHAT IS SOIL SCIENCE?

I've always wanted to do this. Soil Science is the combination of two words, soil meaning the inorganic and organic materials and particules that make up the surface of the land and science which is the observation, investigation and study of a particular event or object. So we can simply say Soil Science is the study of the soil, it's formation, classification and every other thing about it and the factors affecting it. Soil scientists are necessary for the study of the soil and advising farmers and research experts on the needs of the soil, factors that could affect the soil, classification of the soil and how to keep the soil good and fertile. There are different types of soil up to 10 in number according to people but the main types which people include

° Sandy soil
° Clay Soil
° Loamy soil
° Slit soil
° Peat soil
° Chalky soil

USES OF THE SOIL?

The soil serves as the basis where crops are planted and these crops are needed by humans and animals to fulfill daily needs like feeding, making clothing.

There are organisms called microbes in the soil which react to bacteria and are really helpful in healing bacteria related injuries and irregularities in the body.

The soil is used to make ceramic utensils and objects. The clay soil especially was most used back in the days to make pots, plates, vases and so on.

The soil is used in mixing with cement and other things to build things. The soil is necessary for building walls, houses, pavement and so on. The soil is essential in the building process.

Another important use of the soil is it's use in the purification of water. After aligning a specific kind of soil vertically and pouring water through it, the water comes out pure and safe for use.

WAYS TO KEEP THE SOIL FERTILE OR MAINTAIN IT'S FERTILITY

Adding of compost manure to the soil. If you are wondering what compost is, it is simply decayed organic materials used to aid the soil. Examples of things that can make up compost include carrots pieces, mango peels, decayed leaves and so on.

Carry out mulching on the soil. Mulching is the application of protective matters like hay, compost, saw dust on the surface of the soil to help against weed, reduced erosion and to preserve soil moisture. Things used for mulching are usually organic materials.

Carrying out soil tests on your soil. A soil test is carried out on the soil to test what is wrong with it, the kind of soil it is and things that can help the soil. This test would help one determine the kind of fertilizer and so on they can use on the soil.

Bush fallowing and crop rotation. Crop rotation is the planting of different sets of crops in a particular farm land in a different sequence per season. While bush fallowing is the cultivation of crops in a particular piece of land for a period then leaving it idle for another period with the aim of improving the soil fertility.

Application of decayed animal manure. Animal manure that has aged is very beneficial to plants especially that of ruminant animals. It would be very advisable to utilize aged manure as new manure can be harmful to the plants because they could be filled with harmful substances and be warm which would affect the plant.
