STEEM is unique in that it allows users to earn rewards for creating and curating content on the platform, similar to how social media influencers earn money from sponsored posts.
Development
In the years since its launch, STEEM has seen significant developments and changes. In 2017, the platform introduced a feature called "Communities," which allows users to create their own sub-communities within the larger STEEM ecosystem. This has helped to foster more niche communities and improve content discovery on the platform.
Controversy
In 2018, STEEM faced controversy when it was revealed that a group of users had used their voting power to manipulate the platform and earn large rewards. This led to a hard fork of the platform, which resulted in the creation of a new blockchain called HIVE. HIVE is essentially a fork of STEEM, but with changes to the governance structure and reward distribution system.
Journey through controversies
Despite these challenges, STEEM has continued to grow and evolve. In 2020, the platform announced a major partnership with TRON, another blockchain platform. This partnership has led to new developments and features, such as the ability to use TRON's USDT stablecoin on the STEEM platform.
More recently, STEEM has seen a surge in activity due to the rise of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). NFTs are unique digital assets that are stored on the blockchain, and they have become popular for art and collectibles. STEEM has embraced this trend by launching a new feature called "STEEM NFTs," which allows users to create and sell their own NFTs on the platform.
