You might be surprised with the business review I’m going to do today but I am sure that you will not only enjoy it but that you will be amazed how the youth of today can make a success out of nothing.

How did it all start?
My stepson, 12 years old, loves playing computer games. Towards the end of last year he asked us for a gaming computer. Now, I’m sure you know that those kind of computers are not cheap.
There was no ways we could afford buying it for him but not only that I can just imagine how we would battle to get him away from his games. I told him that he will just have to make a plan to earn some money.
He started to look around and eventually he found an ice-cream factory close to us and told us that he was going to buy ice-cream and then he is going to resell them in bulk.
Fine, I told him, but I want to see your plans for your business in the hope that he will not continue.
He presented me with everything I asked for.

With R 2,000 (+/-130 USD or 245 STEEM) he collected from birthdays and Christmas money over the years he started his little business.
How did he do it?
20 October 2020 he officially started by handing out pamphlets to school friends, family members, people living in our area and Facebook adverts family members posted on his behalf. From there on orders started to come in.
What amazed me is that he launched his business in COVID-19 time and under strict lockdown regulations. What was the odds for it to work?
How does the business work?
- Divan sends out marketing material via WhatsApp and emails on a Friday.
- On replies from his customers he will send them order forms which they complete and send back.
- These orders are collected from Fridays to Tuesdays.
- On Wednesdays he will transfer the orders all onto one order sheets which he then send by email to his supplier.
- We collect the orders for him either on the Thursday or Friday. And yes, he pays our petrol to collect.
- Orders close to home he will deliver but most of his customers will come and fetch it from him on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings.
Most of his clients pays via EFT with the result the money is already in his account before he has to pay for the order.

What is his future plans?
After 1,5 years he is still going strong. He is now at the stage of his business where he no longer search for new business as most of his client place re-orders on a regular basis.
What amaze me is that he stays in contact with his clients all the time. On a regular basis he will send them specials. On Easter he sent them Easter messages.

He still doesn’t have enough money to buy that computer he wants but pretty soon he will be there.
I’ve always said that anyone can make a success of a business. You can even make money by selling ice-cream on the corner. Little did I know that one day those words will come true.

I don't know what he is going to come up with when we move. Selling ice-cream at the cost is not easy as their are many outlets.
