📢 Steemit Engagement Challenge S12W6:"WHAT IS THE GRAND FESTIVAL IN YOUR COUNTRY #
Hi
everyone Good morning or good evening. How are we all doing? Hope all is well. I pray that the Grace of God be with you all now and forever..
In my country they are lots of festivals which are always held yearly. But before I continue, what do we mean by FESTIVAL?
A festival or festival can be referred to as a day of celebration, which is usually held or done annually or yearly. And it could be"religious" or "traditional".
WHAT IS THE GRAND FESTIVAL IN YOUR COUNTRY AND HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE IT(MENTION SOME RITUALS IF YOU FOLLOW)
So in my my country they are various types or kinds of festivals. They majority of them all are the "Christmas and Easter, (Advent and Lent by Catholics)" festivals, are mostly celebrated by the Christian in my country. The second is the "Eid Al Fitri," "Ed Al Maulud" and the "Eid Al Kabur".
Other minority and major festivals which are celebrated annualy by ethnic groups and backgrounds are;
Eyo festivals
Calabar canivals
New yam festivals of the Igbos; in these festival, they Igbo people who are well know for these kind of festival world wide, are so dedicated to it. Thee festival is usually held at the first Days of a new new month of a new year. How they festival are been done is quite ritualistic. Though i have not been to it before but from some "Nigerian movies" and stories makes it possible for me to believe easily. So what they first is that they elders of a village, goes to the "shrine" with the first set of yam which they harvest from their farms, and the Native Chief Priest kills a goat or a fowl, and the blood of the creature is being used as sacrifice for the new yam including the biggest and nice set of yams are being sacrificed to the gods of the land. Then after that everyone will wear their red and green attires with green palm branches in their hands as they all dance and celebrate or merry all through the village from one community to another.
The Durbar festivals
Argungu fish festival
The Ojude Oba festival
Ofala festivals
Osun festival
Osango festivals
Lagos festival
Ibibio festival
WOULD YOU LOVE TO GO ON A VACATION DURING THE FESTIVAL PERIOD IR WOULD YOU STAY IN YOUR COUNTRY AND CELEBRATE THE FESTIVAL WITH YOUR FAMILY? GIVE REASONS BEHIND YOUR CHOICES.
Well I don't really participate in all the festivals. Bur when it comes to christian festivals am always available. And I do participate in it. But for other festivals, I don't why is because they are lots of indecent activities that takes place. Most times people go out those festivals, they come back to their homes falling sick, some people especially youths, get initiated in some acultic groups. Some young ladies get unwanted pregnancy because they are being forced. Some get into a fight and they end up losing their lives, or even a part of their body.
SHARE WITH US IF YOU HAVE SOME MEMORIES
From the image below, is an image of me in our attire during the Christmas celebration. It was full of fun as they were various activities of which I played a major role in the drama of the birth of Jesus Christ, as the father of Jesus Christ"Joseph the Carpenter".
Me in Ibibio dressing Attires.
It was quite interesting playing the role of the father of Jesus Christ. But at the end if the day it ended well and we were given gift for playing every role and scene perfectly.
To end it all, the most important and popular festivals in my country are; Christmas and Easter which are celebrated by Christians in my country. And the Eid Al Fitri and others as stated in the beginning, are celebrated by Muslim in my country...
Thanks for your time, till next time.

Thank you sir very much appreciate
