Steem engagement challenge-S10/W4| Do you think advanced technology somehow hampers our natural thought process?
Technology has significantly improved our lives. It accelerates everything, not only saving us time but also enabling us to accomplish tasks that were once unthinkable. But is all this beneficial for our brains? Does technology impact our innate abilities to think and comprehend? In this article, I will explore these questions and more.
Technology is growing more and more into our lives every day. We can’t help but reach for our phones, catch up on emails, and scroll through social media as soon as we wake up. While these activities connect us to the world, they may also diminish our capacity for deep thought and contemplation to some extent.
For example, when we work on a smartphone or computer, our brains essentially integrate with the technology. As our brains come this close to technology, our cognitive abilities, influenced by technology, come into play. Google is a prime example of this. Before, when we couldn't remember something, we'd wrack our brains or ask someone else. Now? Just Google it, and the answer appears immediately, which weakens our memory.
We are so caught up in our hectic lives that we barely get a chance to think deeply about anything. Our brains need time for processing and creative thinking, but technology's usage reduces this time. Our brains also need rest, but due to technology, we're always in "on" mode.
The information overload induced by technology is such that we don't give ourselves time to organize our thoughts. We're constantly in front of some screen, which is not good for our brains.
After hearing all this, you might think technology is dangerous for us. But that's not what I'm saying. I'm merely suggesting that while using technology, we should reflect on its effects. We should use technology properly, i.e., maintain a balance. For instance, we should take breaks from technology to refresh our minds. We shouldn’t let technology do all the work for us. We should use our brains more to improve our memory.
So yes, I do believe that advanced technology affects our natural thought process. But this doesn't mean we should stop using technology. We need to learn to use it properly and in a balanced way to prevent negative impacts on our cognition.
Relying solely on advanced technologies or also utilizing our intellect is a tough question to answer. Given our increasing reliance on technology, it's become integral to our functioning. But that doesn’t mean we should stop using our brains. In my view, there should be a balance between technology and intellect.
The benefits of technology are undeniable. These days, everything depends on technology - our work, education, communication, recreation, etc. It helps us save time, get things done faster, and stay in touch with the world. For these reasons, we depend on technology.
But the issue is that our minds are also machines, constantly striving to provide solutions to every problem. If we rely only on technology, our minds, i.e., our intellect, will be prevented from being exercised. And as we know, anything not used weakens. Hence, if we only rely on technology, our minds will weaken.
Plus, I’d also like to point out the fact that technology was created by humans, and it can contain errors. If we only rely on technology, we won't be able to identify those errors. Our intellect helps us understand whether something is right or wrong.
While technology indeed makes our lives easier, it doesn't mean we should forget our basic skills, like map reading. If the GPS fails, we should know how to read a map. Or calculations. Calculators make calculations easier, but we should still know the basics.
So my answer would be that we should indeed depend on technology, but instead of only depending on it, we should also use our intellect. This will keep our minds active, allow us to maintain our basic skills, and help us identify errors in technology.
I'm neither against technology, nor solely for it. I think using technology is important, but we also need to think about its effects and outcomes.
See, technology has indeed simplified our lives. Need information about anything, Google it; want to talk to someone, call or send a message; need to go somewhere, turn on GPS. All these are possible due to technology. It has also enhanced our efficiency and productivity.
However, this doesn't mean technology comes without drawbacks. It has affected our minds, too. Our memory is weakening because we Google everything now. Our critical thinking and problem-solving skills are also impacted as we increasingly depend on technology for solutions.
Furthermore, our privacy and security are threatened by technology. As everything is becoming digital, our personal information is at risk. Technology addiction, a real issue, is also affecting our mental health.
So, my point is, by all means, use technology, but also ponder its effects. And try to minimize the negative impacts. For instance, take breaks from technology, memorize some things to exercise your memory and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The primary and most significant advantage is that technology has simplified our lives. We don't even need to step out of our homes anymore, everything happens online - shopping, banking transactions, education, work - everything.
The second benefit is that technology has connected us with the world. We can instantly contact anyone in any part of the world.
The third advantage is that technology has increased our efficiency and productivity. For instance, we can deal with more data, work quicker, and be more precise.
The most considerable disadvantage is that technology has affected our cognition, our thinking ability. We are now more dependent on technology, and use our minds less.
Another disadvantage is that technology addiction has become a real problem. People get so wrapped up in technology that they forget about the real world.
The third downside is the problem of privacy and security with technology. Whenever we go online, our personal information is at risk.
There are both benefits and drawbacks to technology. And if we only focus on the bad and ignore the good, we would miss out on the advantages of technology. So, striking the right balance is crucial. Above all, we must keep in mind that technology is just a tool that makes our lives easier, but it can’t take over our thinking abilities or our basic skills.
Yes, I know it is making our lives so much easier, but sometimes I wish for it to just "slow down" a little bit. It often feels like it is running away with me. (•ิ‿•ิ) It is as if my skills are becoming stale.
In the end, I suppose the advantages outnumber the disadvantages.
Nice post!

Hola maigo @waqarahmadshah:
Thank your Sir for your visit and valuable comment. I really appreciate that. 😊
¡Holaaa amigo!🤗
Thank you for the visit and engagement. 😊

Thank you for stopping by my post. 😊
