The ebira people are found in the North Central kogi state, Nigeria. The Ebira Ta’o people have been located in four local governments since the creation of the state: Okene, Okehi, Ajaokuta and Adavi. The Ebira where based in kwara state until the separation of Kogi State from Kwara State. The first Ebira people to settle in kogi state were;
ITAAZI (Ebira tao)
UNO ( Ebira Ètè-Uno, Edo)
AGATU
PANDA (Ebira Toto)
IGU (Ebira koto)

ITAAZI had five (5) son's named (Adaviruku/Ohizi, Ododo, Obaji, Uga, Ochuga/Onotu). Ohizi (Adaviruku) had five children who are ancestors of the five traditional Adavi clans. they occupied Okene, okehi, Ehika, osisi, Osara Adav,i Ajaokuta, Okengnwe and ihima.

In 1865 and 1880, they battled under the leadership of a warlord called Achigidi Okino with jihadists from Bida and Ilorin, known as the Ajinomoh against the fulani. However, the Ebiras resisted the Fulanis conquest thanks in part to their environment defences, their hilly terrain.

The majority of Ebira have historically worked in agriculture, they primarily farm yams, but also grow beans, millet, and corn (maize). The rivers are used for both transportation and fishing. The majority of traders are women, who market both their own and their spouses’ produce.

In the nineteenth century, some group raised and exchanged beni seeds. The Ebira people also place value on crafts and weaving as a source of earning but farming is still the primary occupation.

Religion and beliefs of the Ebira people

The Ebira people's religion before the arrival of Islam and Christianity was a god known as Ohomorihi (the rain maker), who resides in the sky. Rituals are carried out to satisfy a god who is said to punish evildoers and reward good ones.in addition, other traditional gods of the Ebiras include the “Ohomorihi are Ori” (deities) and spirit.

The Ekuechi festival, takes place every year from late November through the end of December or early January, The Ekuechi festival is the most well-known traditional celebration in Ebira villages. separate clans select their own dates to mark the celebration because it lasts a long time. Thus, ekuechi might be understood as the ancestors’ spirits coming back to the planet. The festival’s masqueraders are said to have access to the afterlife, where late loved ones watch over the actions of the living.
