Here on the Steemit platform, the same way that we used to upvote user posts is equally the same way we can downvote a user post when the post is found to be spam, farming, disagreement, or the use of offensive words.

A downvote does not just happen to any user until a user is found guilty of any offense found in the screenshot above. Having said that, a downvote is the act of removing a reward that is given to a user, which also affects reputation. The same way we give support by upvoting a user post or comment is the same way we can downvote a user post. Downvotes come with a red flag, which is at the top right corner of our post and comment.

I also understand that downvotes are removing the amount of votes I have already given to a user, which is based on the amount of Steem power that I have or that of the person who wants to downvote my post. It is a way of reducing abuse on the Steemit platform.

Downvotes affect our accounts in two different ways: our reputation and the support that has already been given. For example, a user who has received $50 in upvotes should get a downvote from a top account with high Steem power; the user's post will then be valued at $1 or less, which will also affect the person's reputation.

Also, downvotes bring shame to a user, making the person look in the eyes of other users as someone who can't contribute meaningfully on the Steemit platform. If my post gets downvoted for plagiarism, it will definitely affect my reputation and growth.

Yes, just as it is shared in the screenshot images shared above, where downvotes stand out to reduce the following as mentioned below:

• Disagreement on rewards
• Fraud or plagiarism
• Hate speech or trolling
• Miscategorized content or spam.

The purpose of dowmvotes is to reduce and eliminate those things and other illegal acts on Steemit. Now if a user gets downvoted for committing any of the aforementioned offenses, he or she will learn how to be original when next he or she makes a post, but in a case where someone is found guilty of any of the aforementioned offenses, the person will keep on committing such acts, but once a down vote has been given, the person will stop, and the post will not be seen among trending posts.
