Steem Engagement Challenge-S10/W5| The Three Significant Reasons Behind Environmental Pollution.

We all want our planet Earth to be a paradise that we can enjoy to the fullest, But how sad our beautiful earth has gradually become a veritable garbage dump. There said cleanliness is next to godliness, but pollution has severely blighted everywhere in our modern society. Businesses take the lead in polluting the earth by creating tons of waste materials, mishandled waste products and oil spills, wars polluting, likewise our little litres hand, all this ruin the earth and makes life unfit. What can be done to culp this situation? I will explain in the next paragraphs that will follow, so keep reading.

WHAT ARE THE THREE SIGNIFICANT REASONS BEHIND ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION? DESCRIBE.

Pollution has been one of the major threat to the existence of life, some reasons behind environmental pollution includes:

1) PLASTICS: This has been one of the major causes of Air, land, and water pollution. Right from the time it's been produced to how it is disposed of, the truth is that if it is left on the land it will take thousands of years to decompose and thus causing land pollution, if it's thrown into the sea fish will swallow it as food and died causing water pollution, then if it's burnt it will cause air pollution and contaminated our environment. It's just sad because life seems to be difficult without the comfort of this deadly product, but I believe something could be done to mitigate the devastating effects of this product.

2) PESTICIDES: you might think of it as a small source of pollution but it's worse; some insects are used to destroy crops, and to stop the pests farmers spray them with pesticides. These bugs die by millions, but few that possess natural immunity survive and pass on this immunity to their offspring and soon a race of superbugs eats crops. The remedy is now boomeranged turning a bad matter into worse. Pesticides destroy valuable insects that preyed on the pests, it touches a wide range of chain reactions, causing calamities and new victims.

The rain used to wash the pesticides poison into the ground, causes damage to soil bacteria, then water will carry them to oceans and lakes where plankton and microorganisms are killed and fishes contaminated. Birds of prey will eat the fish and can't hatch eggs and people eat the fish with the pesticides. Or people might eat the poison through other food chains for example castle or cow may eat the pesticides land on grass, and the poison may enter their meat and milk which we eat or drink, and this causes us serious health issues and sometimes death.

3)LITTERBUGS AND GRAFFITI: Some people are wanton polluters, they ignore the principles of cleanliness, littering everywhere they are, beaches, streets etc. They have a habit of throw-away selfishness and lazy habit which leads to littering and pollution. Graffiti artists may seem less dangerous polluters but they've Rob our earth of clean and beautiful environment. Some cities are full of dilapidated abandoned buildings, untidy homes, wrecked cars and Junky debris cluttering up farmyards.

The bottom line is that Man has been the cause of environmental pollution, our planet is polluted due to the so-called industrialization/ urbanization, the earth is excavated, and burnt by men, we've ripped so many things from it, cut down its forest, muddied it's water, shortening its hills and dirtied its air. The truth is that Man has not been a good tenant of the earth, many deserved eviction!

HOW CAN WE PREVENT ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

• By being pollution conscious, not wantonly littering our environment or disobediently ignoring anti-pollution laws that the government implement.

• We should have respect for people's property, not throwing waste on people's undeveloped land, and not use graffiti as a way of expression, it's not innocently fun, it dirty our surroundings.

• By keeping our homes clean, our clothes, cars and body clean!

• By disposing of waste products properly, during the network news yesterday I was happy to learn that the government will be taxing all the plastic companies according to the numbers of plastic they produced, I think this new law will culp the production of plastics.

Environmental pollution harms humans, animals, oceans, and soil. It's detrimental to our health and public safety. Here in Nigeria, we read stories about how a whole family died after eating foods that contain pesticides. So many cancers are caused by pollution and other health issues.

Fishes, birds and other animals died daily because of swallowing or eating harmful chemicals or materials, and lakes and oceans are drying out because of plastic.

HAVE YOU EVER TAKEN PART TO KEEP YOUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN?

Sure every last Saturday of the month is a sanitation day in my state, I used to take part in cleaning the environment. I used to weed and sweep our street for it to be clean and tidy. Cutters used to be cleaned up to prevent blockage, I normally dispose of my refuse properly, and my surroundings clean because cleanliness is next to holiness. I guard against the throw-away lazy habit and I've learned how to recycle some waste products into a treasure!

Maintain your cleanliness, remove all kinds of dirt on your surroundings, and keep your body and mind clean too it means good health to you. Never compromise on your hygiene and cleanliness because it will mean comprising your health as well, keep your environment clean and green this will keep you away from diseases. Thank you!
