Contest of the month by @sduttaskitchen| According to you, what is the definition of equal rights?

Let me admit that I avoid speaking against the system or law, but this topic is different. I have seen so much discrimination in our society that I can't stop expressing myself. Maybe my post is not as per the set rules and norms for this contest, but I won't mind if you reject it outright.

You have asked this and when I did this post, I had certain ideas, and certain experiments in my mind.

"If we go through the social aspects, in some countries, especially women, do not get equal opportunities; whether it is about the education system or the selection of professional fields."

I will cover more than that in my post:

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. -Maya Angelou

According to you, what is the definition of equal rights?

Let me make it clear at the beginning that I am writing on a topic that has been haunting me for a long time, and when I see people living in different countries in different ways and enjoying different facilities, I want to revolt against the system.

We all know that world leaders talk big about the Constitution giving certain basic freedoms to all citizens, both individually and collectively. The right to equality includes equality before the law, the prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth, and equal opportunity in relation to employment. But is that really so?

We talk big about the rights to freedom of speech and expression, the right to freedom of assembly, association, or union, the right to freedom of movement and residence, and the right to earn any livelihood or business. Some of these rights are related to the security of the state, different relations with foreign countries, public order, and decency and ethics. But is that applicable? Maybe in certain privileged countries, but not everywhere.

There is a right against exploitation that prohibits forced labor, child labor, and human trafficking. There is no place for barring you from applying the freedom of faith and conscience, following any religion, having faith, and propagating religion. the right of any class of citizens to preserve their culture, language, or script; the right of minorities to run educational institutions of their choice; and the right to constitutional remedies for the enforcement of fundamental rights. But is that so?

If we truly follow all these, that is equality for me.

Do you think we all deserve equal opportunities in terms of merit? Explain!

If we look at equal rights, it prohibits discrimination of any kind. It protects citizens from all forms of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth.

I want to laugh when I read the laws:

Every citizen shall, on grounds only of race, religion, caste, place of birth, sex, or any of them, be subject to any liability, disability, restriction, or condition that provides equal employment opportunities for all citizens.

I want to laugh aloud and slap the law book on the face of lawmakers for making the rules and then forget all about implementing them. Do you think this person sitting on the ground has any equal rights?

There is a fundamental right on paper that clearly gives the status of fundamental rights to its citizens and the general human rights of an individual. This means such rights cannot be taken away from any citizen.

The right to equality is the first and foremost of the fundamental rights. According to this, every person is equal in the eyes of the law. No one enjoys a special status. Everyone has equal protection under the law. No person can be discriminated against only on the basis of his religion, language, caste, or gender. This means every citizen will have equal opportunity. No one shall be discriminated against just because they belong to a particular religion, caste, language, region, or gender.

I believe everyone has equal rights in an open society, so no one has to face discrimination. I can see a lot has been done in this direction, but there is still a lot to be done. I don't think humanity will survive if we do not adopt the formula of equality.

In this advanced century, do you believe we are all growing and getting equal opportunities in personal and professional life? Share your opinion.

I believe we have yet to go a long way toward bringing equality to all fields of life. For instance, if everyone gets equal rights, society will progress faster than ever, and poverty will disappear. When we see one tenth of the world living on less than 5 Steem per day and 80% of the world struggling to survive, while at the same time 10% of people enjoy 90% of the wealth of the world, that's neither fair nor represents equality.

That's true; we have done and achieved a lot in this direction, but there is still a lot to be done in the coming years so that poverty declines and we achieve the target of 100 percent equality. But there is a lot to be done by the oppressed themselves. They will have to work hard to achieve equality, as no one is going to offer it to them on a platter. I am not saying they should revolt to get it, but they must put in their efforts to achieve equality. They simply can't sit idle and expect equality to knock on their doors; they will have to make efforts to get it.

There is a big question mark! Is it the responsibility of governments and society to promote equality? I think there is. While we were working on bringing economic equality, COVID-19 made a dent and sent millions into poverty, especially women, who already suffer in different ways from different inequalities.

If you get a chance to change anything, which things would you like to change to keep the balance of equal rights?

Let's accept the fact that equality makes a healthier society. I have seen it all: the location, income, sexuality, and gender of a person play a role in healthcare. People living in the third world suffer from discrimination more than people in tier two, and we can't even compare ourselves with people living in tier one countries because they enjoy a privilege over the rest of the world. So where is equality? So as you said, equal rights will definitely help improve a country's status.

I would immediately research and identify structural discrimination, which I believe is the root of harm to our society and especially to certain groups. I know the world is facing discrimination based on race, namely black, white, yellow, and brown, and this makes people suffer from financial, housing, and health issues. If I could do anything, I would work against discrimination so that everyone can eat two squire meals, has access to healthcare equally, has a roof over his head, has the right to education, and, of course, has the right to economic stability. If all this is within the reach of everyone on equal terms, their children will have access to education and other facilities too. This would all help improve society in totality.

Conclusion

A society with equal rights will reduce violence.
A society with equal rights will live a healthy life.
A society with equal rights will face less discrimination.
A society with equal rights will live a happier life.
A society with equal rights will live in harmony.

Thanks for inviting me. All the very best.

Regardless of gender or age, all ladies, and men should have equal rights. That is my point. Thank you for inviting me.

I keep ladies ahead of men for their capabilities and multi-tasking ability, so cheers!

Thank you for understanding.

If I had to pick a favorite part of your post, it would be your take on what you'd change to ensure equal rights. And, your conclusion nails it – a society with equal rights would truly be a better place in every sense. Overall, a great post as always. I wish you the very best in this contest! 😊

Thanks, I am sure we shall live to see the day when our part of the world goes through these changes.

It’s just a matter of time before we see it happen. 🙂
