Are You Having Artificially Ripened Fruits?

I used to be a guy who absolutely adored fruits when I was small and Mangoes used to be one of my favorites to eat. But as time passed and I started to learn how these fruits are ripened I started to absolutely hate fruits with the exception of a few. Mangoes are one of the most adulterated or the most artificially ripened fruit in India and thanks to that I have almost stopped eating and enjoying Mangoes almost completely.

So What is Artificial Ripening?

Artificial Ripening is basically the process of using different Chemicals or other methods to speed up the Maturity of a Fruit or other Vegetables. It is mostly done to reap profits when the market has heavy demand for a certain Fruit or Veggie and people use these methods to Artificially Ripen a Fruit or Veggie before their actual Maturity period. It would have been okay if these chemicals they use to Artificially Ripen the fruits were okay to use and not harmful to us but these chemicals are indeed harmful to us so yeah I have a serious problem with that. For example, Calcium carbide is a chemical which is widely used to Artificially Ripen Mangoes and it is not good for us to consume.

How Do You Identify Artificially Ripened Fruits?

There are several ways you can identify if the fruit you are looking to buy is good or not and the first is to Check The Skin Colour of the Fruit where you can check if the fruit has a uniform color as artificially ripened tend to look similar all the way round while natural fruits have uneven tones of color in them.

The next way by which you can identify a Fruit is through Checking through Damages by which I mean you need to check if a Mango seems to be over-ripened at a single spot as that could be a sign that the Mango was Artificially Ripened and injected chemicals at that point.

Now there are a couple of other ways as well but those usually need you to take a bite of the fruit which I wouldn't suggest as that in itself is harmful.

So Next time you go to buy some fruits from the Market do check if you are buying Normal Fruits or just Artificially Ripened ones which are made to just get some quick Profits.
