Okay, first comes first
It doesn't look like a disaster to me and you can for sure fix this one.
If it comes to the brushes some easily break even if right out of the package while others last for years.
I believe you should use a sponge or cloth to wipe the colour over the entire canvas This will go quick and you can let it rest till the next day.
You can paint with with nearly everything. Try out what feels best for you. Again it can be a sponge to dot the clouds, shape the mountains and dot with the sponge on different parts of the mountain (safe the pencils for details or let it be)
water is the same as the sky and mountains, just smear the paint on the canvast . You can use different layers. Let it rest till you know what you will do next.
Keep in mind that the great old masters rarely made a painting within one day, it was more like a year or even years and in many cases they weren't the only ones working on it, their students did too. The Mona Lisa for example is never finished.It will be very hard to make a lighter colour. If you mix paint it goes from light to dark. You take a light colour and ad a tiny bit of dark to it (unless you will need a lot of paint.
If you want to make light what is already dark on your canvash you need layers and "wash" it... so a wet brush/cloth/sponge and a tiny bit of a light colour (white/yellow, light blue) and add that layer and see what happens. You can practice
It would be could to have a board you can place on the easel and tape a big paper on so you can try out different ways of working. If you have cardboard (like from a box) you can use that too to practice with the colours, brushes and so on.
@almaguer his first paintings were landscapes too. I hope he can give you some tips and show you what he used for an example and technique.
So far so good, Rome is not built over night and what we have in our mind is rarely what we create (and least not with me).

Hi Miss @wakeupkitty, thank you about these pointers I will try them out, it will take time but I guess it is the way considering that I am easily het bored plus the frustration is setting in on me.
But I will have to be patient and take my time on working on this piece. I just wish that I can paint while lying down because it is an added challenge to even pick up and open the small jars of paint I've bought about a week ago, that is how weak my hands and arms are which adds frustration.

I used a sponge yesterday to try it out and this morning i tried something else.
With a wet sponge dipped into a bit of paint you can fill the entire paper/canvas within a few minutes. If too much paint at certain spots you make the sponge wet and wipe it out. You can also use a brush to wipe it into different directions
This morning I tried something else after trying out a piece of wall (fell apart I fixed it but never painted it new). With a big wet brush I made it green (good wet too, the wall is fixed with plaster (the walls are made of sand - hay - water, a kind of clay). It went very fast. I made with the same brush (the side) grass on it. I painted in the dark since there's no much light in that corner. I am satisfied about the result. It went fast (way faster than painting a wall) and I didn't by fat that much paint as when I had to buy it at the paint shop (not to mention the mess).
The water I wetted the brush in turned green. I used that to wash this morning paper (light green and good to make a layer over a paining), It worked well and fast. It's just a few brushes or strokes with a sponge. You should start with that and leave the details. You can do that later.
We all feel frustrated. The same counts for me but practise is needed and that's why I told you, you need a paper to test the colours, the brushes, what is possible. It might not be the painting you have in mind (yet) but it's all valuable.
By now I can still not paint with watercolour like I have in mind.. Can be due to the paper (and lines) and I have by far not the time to focus for hours on a painting but I try to paint daily even if it's only backgrounds like I do at the moment.
Can be only the quick one I made this monring within 15 minutes on a thin piece of paper is finished. LOL
Don't give up that easily... try out the colours, the brushes, try your finger, a cloths, paper, whatever you find. You can paint with everything.
I value your pointers and suggestions Miss @wakeupkitty, I do struggle with doing an even coat of paint, maybe I might use a sponge for that matter but I'll see what I can do God-willing.
With maybe you won't get far. Super great painting are made with sponge. So start practising making layers. BTW I don't use an easel. I put it down and use the sponge that way. It might help since you don't have to lift your arm.
