Warming Foods - How to Stay Cozy in the Cold

in Foodies Unite4 years ago (edited)

I’ve been there - a year as raw foodie in German winter. And yes, it’s definitely easier being raw in a tropical fruit paradise. BUT colder climates don’t mean that you can’t crush the raw lifestyle.

It just requires a bit more cleverness.

I know, we are in June - isn't it almost summer season right now? True, for the Northern hemisphere. But I am cuddled up in Australia right now where winter time is coming. So for all those who are also not enjoying the summer heat right now, let me show you how to add more cozy warmness to your food without cooking it.

💫 By the way, you see this creamy orange-chocolate smoothie in the pic? The recipe is in my raw vegan ebook along with 54 other vibrant dishes. You can download it right away via this link.

Warming up with raw foods? Yes!

So, there are foods that are cooling us down and others that warm us up from the inside. Here are some of my favorite warming ingredients for colder days:

GINGER: Together with lemon water, in a smoothie or as part of your dinner sauce.

CINNAMON: Always lands in my smoothie bowls. Opt for the ceylon cinnamon if possible which is a healthier choice than the cheaper cassia version.

CAYENNE PEPPER: Heating up my zoodle and salad dressings. Stay clear of cayenne if having a fever since it can worsen the symptoms.

TURMERIC: Add some black pepper to multiply its nutritious benefits.

THYME AND OREGANO: Goes so well in tomato-tahini sauces for zucchini noodles.

Apart from that, you might want to eat your smoothies at room temperature and choose to eat nicecream whenever it gets warmer - not that this advice ever helped me to stay away from big banana ice cream bowls in freezing German winter. They are just too delicious to resist.

Stay cozy, everyone! Anais
