If you want to watch a movie with the aim of enjoying the action, destruction and wonderful combat scenes between the two monsters, then you are in the right place, but if you are looking for a deep story and characters to fall in love with, you will not get what you want with Godzilla vs. Kong . Yes, the fourth movie in the Monsterverse series that started with Godzilla from 2014, Kong: Skull Island from 2017, and finally Godzilla: King of the Monsters from 2019 offers what it promised, which is the epic confrontation between the two monsters. The two giants Godzilla and Kung. But they have a very shallow story that may leave some fans disappointed.

The film continues after the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters , where peace returned to the world after Godzilla killed all the other giant monsters and then disappeared in the depths of the sea, but after five years of calm, there is something inciting Godzilla to reappear and attack a dependent facility To the suspicious APEX company, which causes a new threat that officials seek to get Kong out of his mysterious hideout, which has become threatened with exposure, and try to hide him away.

Apex President Walter Simmons (played by Demian Beecher) goes to the world, Dr. Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgard), an expert in the theory of the hollow Earth, wants him to help him transport Kong there, so they set out on a journey with the help of Walter Maya's daughter (Iza Gonzales) and scientist Ellen Andrews (Rebecca Hall) to take him there so that Godzilla does not perceive his presence and attack him. But of course it is too late.

We're not spoiling anything when we say it's too late, as the film's main promise is to deliver the epic showdown between the two gigantic beasts, and that's what we really get. The film does not fail to provide all the action and enthusiasm in multiple battles, each of which takes place in a different environment. The movie really shines in those battles in terms of computer-generated images of both monsters, and massive devastation with every punch and kick, as well as great sound effects that make the viewer vibrate in place whenever Kong or Godzilla roars. The film also offers wonderful and distinctive environments, especially with the hollow Earth region that appears as if it is from the surface of another planet, in addition to other creatures that appear in it, albeit for very short scenes.

Unfortunately, the film is not without flaws, as the story suffers from shortcomings and superficiality, and a lot of stupid gaps that could have been avoided or provide a stronger scenario in dealing with some of the events in it, in addition to the fact that all the characters suffer from superficiality and lack of great importance for most of them. It was the case with the previous parts. Where the film takes advantage of the fame of Millie Bobby Brown and the success that she contributed to Godzilla: King of the Monsters as Madison and her father Mark (Kyle Chandler), but without giving them the depth they deserve, so you get here a very weak story that can simply be dispensed with without affecting too much on The events of the film through minor adjustments to the script.

Madison seeks to justify Godzilla's behavior, so she and her friend Josh (Julia Dennison), and the mysterious podcast owner Bernie Hayes (Brian Tyrie Henry), who tries to uncover the truth of the evil Apex company, and who in fact was able to reveal his whereabouts with ease despite all the mystery that tried the film Add it to its beginnings, setting off on a journey to find out what the company has in store. But their journey does not provide much benefit except as a comedic extract that takes place between the confrontations and the major obstacles faced by the other team accompanying Kong. Their story also suffers from some very easily solved events just for them to continue their adventure. As for her father, Mark, he barely appears in the movie in two or three scenes.

The same applies to the other team, despite the importance of their journey in the story of the film, but Skarsgaard as Dr. Lind is just someone who created the cesspool theory without getting any backstory or other motives, and he's nothing more than a tool to move the plot without really doing anything or adding any important information about his theory or helping with anything actual. On the other hand there is the scientist Ellen Andrews accompanying him, whose role is no more than the guardian of the deaf girl Jia (Kylie Hottie), the last survivor of the Native Skull Island, who formed a strong bond with Kong. It can be said that Jia is the most prominent character among the entire cast, although she does not speak a word, but Hottie shines with her performance and is able to highlight the human character that Kong carries more.

I wish the script had been handled better to provide a deeper story and characters and a more coherent plot, but the movie's wonderful combat scenes that combine the two brutals in epic and bloody confrontations with a great combat design make this good enough that I recommend watching the movie in cinemas just for fun. That experience. But I advise you not to set high expectations about the story and the characters.

Conclusion

Godzilla vs. Kong is the hope of people who yearn to see epic battles between the two giants Kong and Godzilla, as it provides superior visual and sound effects, from the massive devastation caused by confrontations, to the chilling sounds of their roars, to the magical environments of the hollow Earth, which will be more Awesome if seen in cinemas. Unfortunately, the movie suffers from a weak story full of holes, which you cut through with very easy solutions just to continue the adventure. The characters also suffer from superficiality, which makes the viewer feel that humans are only present in the film to advance the plot without real significance
