My favorite motivational films for self-development

in LifeStyle4 years ago

In fact, ideally, any film should contribute to our development and motivate us to become better. And good films, in principle, cope with this. However, there are certain criteria according to which films are classified as "motivating" and "for self-development."

This is the presence of motivational dialogues, references to scientific practices and issues of psychology in the course of the plot, emotions that prompt action after watching the film. If the film meets at least one criterion, it can be classified as motivating and promoting self-development.

We have selected a dozen films for you that will definitely strengthen your motivation to live life to the fullest, and we highly recommend watching them. Many plots, by the way, are taken from life and have undergone minimal artistic processing when writing a script and film adaptation.

After watching these films, you will understand how rich in opportunities your life is. Certainly richer than the heroes of these films. And it will be even richer if you take even a small step towards your luck.

Peaceful Warrior, 2006

The film "Peaceful Warrior" directed by Victor Salva is based on the novel "The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman. The protagonist, a college student, a girl's favorite and a talented athlete who has every chance to compete in the Olympics, gets into a motorcycle accident.

The injuries he received should have put an end to his sports career, but a meeting with a man who provided him moral support at a difficult moment inspired the young man to look at the world differently.

The dialogues filled with deep philosophical meaning touch on many aspects of life and lead the main character to the understanding that strength of mind in sports is often more important than strength of the body.

Starring Scott Mehlovitz (athlete) and Nick Nolte (spiritual mentor). By the way, according to the script of the film, the name of the young athlete is Dan Millman, and the author of the book, Dan Millman, starred in this film in a cameo role.

The World's Fastest Indian, 2005

It is difficult when serious obstacles on the way to sports heights appear at the very beginning of a sports career. However, it is even more difficult when an elderly person who has firmly decided not to give up and make his dream come true is faced with problems on the way to sports glory.

Director Roger Donaldson told the story of an elderly motorcyclist from New Zealand who has dedicated many years of his life to the dream of setting a world speed record. To do this, he personally converted his old Indian motorcycle into a racing model, found opportunities to travel to the United States and transport his two-wheeled friend to the competition site, ignored all the prohibitions of doctors and realized his dream.

The movie is based on real events. Motorcycle racer Bert Monroe is a real character, whose record, set in 1967 on a motorcycle with an engine capacity of up to 1000 cubic centimeters, has not yet been broken. At the time of the record, Bert Monroe was 68 years old, and his role in the film was brilliantly played by the legendary Anthony Hopkins.

Soul Surfer, 2011

The film, directed by Sean McNamara, is an adaptation of the real story of surfer Bethany Hamilton, full of drama. At 13, she fell victim to a shark attack, losing her left arm. The girl found the strength not only to return to normal life , but also to resume surfing and start participating in competitions on a par with physically healthy athletes.

This film is not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for the faint of heart. Anna Sophia Robb starred. On the set of the film, she wore a green overlay on her left hand so that during the editing process she could “remove” her hand from the frame. In some episodes, she holds her hand from behind and thus the filmmakers achieved the desired effect.

Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story, 2003

The Harvard Bum directed by Peter Levin tells the story of a girl named Liz Murray who has fallen into difficult life circumstances. She grew up in a family of drug addicts and when she was only 15, her mother died of AIDS. As is often the case in any country in the world, families leading an asocial lifestyle risk being left homeless, which is what happened in this case.

The heroine was forced to solve all her problems herself, to take on any unskilled job in order to have a livelihood and the opportunity to study at Harvard. The girl managed to get out with honor from all the trials that circumstances threw her at the very beginning of her life, to overcome all the problems and achieve success. The main role in the film is played by Thora Birch, and the plot of the film is based on real events, which reinforces the motivating component of the film.

Pollyanna, 2003

Children can teach us a lot, especially optimism. Another touching story of an orphaned girl appears in the film directed by Sarah Harding. The film "Pollyanna" is based on the novel of the same name by Eleanor Porter.

After the death of her parents, 11-year-old Polianne is forced to move to a family of relatives, where strict rules and stupid prohibitions prevail. However, Pollyanna's father managed to teach her a very useful game - to enjoy life always and everywhere. This helps the girl not only to survive a difficult life test, but also to charge the inhabitants of a small provincial town with her optimism, who have long forgotten how to get joy from anything.

Unfortunately, the problems that befell the little heroine do not end there, but there is still hope that she will cope with all the difficulties. Note that the young actress Georgina Terry brilliantly coped with the role of Pollyanna.

The Bucket List, 2007

The work of director Rob Reiner can be safely called a coach's dream. Numerous time management consultants advise to do exactly as the protagonists who learned about their fatal illness did . Namely, not to postpone the most important thing in your life "for later" and "on the back burner."

Millionaire Edward Cole and car mechanic Carter Chambers find themselves equal in the face of death - both were diagnosed with cancer. Having become friends during their stay in the hospital, they decide not to part any further, and bring to life a list of things to do, "until they play in the box."

Their to-do list would be the envy of many young and physically healthy people: skydiving, auto racing in vintage cars, traveling around the world. But the fact of the matter is that while you envy and procrastinate, it can become hopelessly late ... The main roles were played by Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.
