The first wave of reviews for The Avengers 3 is out! American film critics: the best Hollywood blockbuster ever

The word of mouth for The Revenant 3 certainly blew up, but the question is, just how much did it blow up?

To be sure, the film has won over more critics than The Revenant 2, which largely failed in terms of word-of-mouth.

The super blockbuster is currently collecting an 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes; and an overall score of 68/100 on MetaCritic.
The North American ratings show that "The Revenant 3" is still narrowly behind "The Avengers 1", but certainly better than "The Avengers 2", but compared to the rest of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" Phase 3 in recent years, it is higher than "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" and loses to "Black Panther".

That's too abstract, so let's see what the North American critics have to say.

The critics were unanimous in their praise for the performance of Josh Brolin as the Exterminator and the ending of the film. The general consensus is that this is a far more complex villain than we've ever been exposed to before.
Of course there are the contrarians, with Mashable editor Angie J. Han arguing that, apart from a few genuinely exciting moments, the film as a whole is less sensational than some of its sequences. A noticeable dip after the epic release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man, Thor 3 and Black Panther.

And the Globe and Mail critic's review was even worse: even by Marvel's own mediocre standards, Avengers 3: Infinity War is a flop.

But even the discerning critics affirmed the grandeur of this convention of Marvel heroes, as AP critic Jake Coyle put it: it was a simple pleasure to see so many actors gathered for Avengers 3: Infinity War, an 'Ocean's Eleven'-style exhilarating ride.
Taking all the reviews together, it's safe to assume that this will be a magnum opus, a Marvel topper in terms of special effects, emotion, and superhero presence, while the villain portrayal and ending have a chance to be among the best in Marvel history. But The Revenant 3 may not be considered the best in the Marvel Universe.

Of course for those fans who are still going to grab a midnight screening no matter what the critics say, all of this review can be summed up in one sentence: just brushing up on this movie is not enough.
