MOVIES | The Darjeeling Limited

in LifeStyle3 years ago

In an homage to an Indian filmmaker, Wes Anderson shifts his colour palette to India, to tell the tale of three brothers, each lost within their past and unwilling to let go.

The three brothers, each moderately successful in their own fields, choose to meet up one year after their father's funeral, one year since their last meet up. They don't particularly trust each other, and their troubles refuse to disappear on their spiritual journey chosen by the brother Francis, although he hides the fact that he has hired a private investigator to find their money, who is now living in India as a nun.

Ultimately, The Darjeeling Limited is a story of finally letting go of the baggage that has weighed the characters down and reduced them to loneliness and selfishness. Their journey isn't just an individual, spiritual one, but an attempt to learn to trust each other again and ensure their petty differences do not keep them apart again.

Their journey throughout India is a journey through life; dealing with loss, maturity, and the unknown. It's a transition into adulthood and taking responsibility and knowing when to move on. It's understanding that life cannot be lived alone.
As expected, Wes Anderson uses cantered cinematography throughout the film, and it works beautifully within the enclosed spaces of the Darjeeling Limited, alongside a limited colour palette of green, orange, and brown.

The Darjeeling Limited is beautiful, wholesome, and an life-altering experience in its own.
