I was really interested reading your definitions on the big and the small family units. I think in some form every society works in that way and the interactions between each other can fluctuate but never disappear.
Steem, as a Blockchain, is ruled by the code which is operated and handled by the witnesses and their computers nodes. Every one can vote on 30 of them depending on the decisions and work they are doing. The conception and changes of the codes are decided by the consensus of the super majority, the top 20 witnesses. The code defines the economy, your Steem Power defines the strength of your vote.
Social influence is also gained by actions and the operation of your blog and account. Interactions are important to give value, add to the discussion and gain support.
