Wild beeswax is as natural and as cruelty free as it gets. The bees naturally dessert their hive when food sources locally and in the hive have been exhausted - they swarm and create a new one. The old natural hives are left hanging in the trees, mostly robbed of honey (which has fed the bees as it is intended to do). The wax - a by-product of honey production - is left behind. Not one bee dies nor needs to be smoked out if you use natural bees, and not battery-farmed western style box-bees.

Simple.

The environmental cost of all those exotic waxes is astounding. Wonder how many vegans count the dead dolphins from the oil well for the av fuel to ship their precious vegan wax. Provenance is everything. Mass farmed honey is the aberration and created by the western desire for sugars and sweet.

REAL beeswax? Arguably as vegan as it gets, and crucial to a healthy, sustainable organic lifestyle.

Absolutely!!!! I think vegans can jump on the ABSOLUTE bandwagon sometimes without looking at complexities. Not all, of course!!!!

The world would be a different place if we didn't have massive sweet teeth!

Hear, hear!

Saying honey is not vegan, or beeswax 😳 is just a blanket statement on the level of "vegans are dumb"!

Nice reply, didn't know this!

It all comes down to your personal relationship with the bees. I think the vegan issue (and the way I see it as well) is looking at other animals as if they were you. How would you feel about someone coming to smoke you out of your house to take a portion of what you have worked to achieve? I think of that and there is no way I could be ok with that situation if it were me.

That said, it's better if you get the wax from local bees than shipped from elsewhere including the abusing of humans, who are also animals.

That pretty much summarises my post. If its a relationship ie. Beekeepers host and tend bees, caring for them and advocating for them, taking a PERCENTAGE and leaving more than enough for bees, then I think its fair. Bees are so smart they can actually earn the beekeeper if there's a predator or something wrong with hive.. they actually try to herd you there! So cool.

Awesome bee shot. I guess i am familiar with bee paparazzi, so i really mean it when i write that.

Ha, yes! I loved the beeshots too.. just taken with phone!

Wow, you really hit it home big with this article. There are so many different types of Vegans today that I do not think that any of us could ever make every single customer happy. I personally have found it so difficult to find ethically-sourced products to use in my soapmaking as you have for making your homemade stuff. I can not even tell you how many hours have been spent researching, watching videos, and reading tests results or thesis done by universities. It is enough to put one into a mental tizzy. All one can do is ones due dilgence to resource good products to make their vegan lines as wholesome as possible. The bees, when cared for on a personal level, actually love sharing their honey and wax with us. It is a symbionic relationship that one creates with the hive and the bees know you are growing wonderful flowers and trees for them to survive. Thus, in return they love to share with their beekeeper. It is the give and take that creates the beautiful connection with the bees. I see an emergence of young beekeepers around the world creating beautiful gardens to help them sustain and build the hives while creating larger and larger ones. So, from my standpoint on a personal level, I feel the bees are willing participants in co-creating their sweet product for us to enjoy. Just as much as the Raspberry bush that continually supplies it's sweet fruit for the bees, the wildlife, and us to enjoy its natural goodness. We are all one in nature and there is no separation between us and them. My question, why or when are we all going to realize that we are here to honor and enjoy the fruits of all of natures beautiful bounty.
