RE: How Corona could Save the World

The problem with most of this is that it requires us all to think about planting a tree whose shade we know we will never sit.

In the lives of us, we're getting f*cked, killed, impoverished, with a perpetual looming threat of things only going downhill.

It's pretty hard to separate from one's immediate concerns and instead focus on the positive vibes philosophy has to say about the distant future

Very well said, and that’s why it’s always been an uphill battle. But one of people’s main motivation is their children, or at the very least spreading their seed. If we look at the bigger picture, I think it’s easy to make the connection and start caring about what we leave behind for others. The only reason we don’t is because we are constantly bombarded with things that try to push us down to our most basic instincts of survival. So it’s really all just about where people put their focus.

I’m way more skeptical about everything than I let on, I always leave room for the possibility that it could all go to shit, that all worse case scenarios could come true. But I also have lots of experience that tells me the best way to avoid the worst case scenario is to not entertain those ideas any more than is required to develop a backup plan. I try to just keep faith in humanity (even though I know how terrible it CAN be)and in life. Fear breeds more fear and doubt breeds more doubt until no one trusts anyone or anything and I don’t want to contribute to that. I’d much rather make the best of where I am and keep spreading my seed ;-D
