POTATO- PEAS STAR Pattys - The perfect patty for anytime burger !

This is a quick recipe I used from time to time when my kids would clamour for something interesting to eat. Over the years our family has grown quite fond of this Peas in potato combination. It’s the perfect item that fits the bill of “Taste bhi Aur Health Bhi” (Both tasty and healthy).

It can be a side dish, a snack or even main course depending on how you use it. This can be had with a dip of your choice. You can also use the patty in sandwiches. If you make the patty big even a burger. So, you see sky is the limit 😉

Depending on your diet you can use the recipe to make other animal protein based tikkis/pattys also. Just replace the peas with item of your choice.

Ingredients

3 medium aloo/potatoes medium size
½ cup fresh peas
½ cup Poha / flattened rice
½ cup fresh coriander/ cilantro
Red chilli powder as per taste
1 tbsp dhaniya/coriander powder
2 green chillies chopped
1 tbsp grated ginger
1 tbsp corn flour Corn flour
½ tsp Salt or as per taste
A pinch of Hing/ Asafoetida
¾ tsp Chat Masala
Oil for frying

The Recipe

  • Boil the potatoes. Peel and mash when cooled.
  • Grind the Poha to powder in the grinding jar.
  • Mix the powdered poha, mashed potato, chili powder, dhania/coriander powder, ginger and salt to taste in a mixing bowl and mix well and knead them to a smooth dough.
  • Cover and keep it aside for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile grind peas, green chilli, fresh coriander in a mixer in to a coarse mixture at pulse mode.
  • Roast this mixture for two minutes in a fry pan with little oil, chilli powder, chat masala and the hing. Keep aside for cooling.
  • Make medium size 12-14 equal sized balls of potato mixture and flatten each ball in to about 5 mm thick and 3 inches in diameter round Pattys and keep all of them separately on a plate.
  • The size of patty should be bigger than the cookie cutter mould you like to use for the shape of Tikki you wish to make.
  • Mix corn flour in little water to be used for sticking the potato patties.
  • Now cut the potato pattys in a desired shape using the cookie cutter.
  • Make a sandwich of two potato pattys with peas mixture in between. Use corn flour on the edges to stick and cement it. Description --> Put a spoonful of peas mixture on one potato roti, apply corn flour paste on its periphery and place other roti on top of it. Press it by tapping it so that both sides stick with each other properly. Make all tikkies in similar way and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a fry pan and shallow fry the tikkies on medium flame till golden brown on both sides.
  • Serve with green chatani /ketchup/hummus/coconut chutney or a dip of your choice.

Aloo Peas tikki recipe in pictures

There your fancy galactic tikkis are ready. This is quick and easy to make. However, it looks esoteric enough to impress your guests. As mentioned above you can replace the peas fillings with anything of your choice. Thus, you could probably make the same snack with three different fillings and you would actually have three different dishes.
