I Goat - Artwork at Spitafield Market

in Photography4 years ago

Hi Steemians,

today I saw a new artwork on Spitalfields Market, I guess it isn't new because it was first unveiled in 2010 but I hadn't seen it before and I think it is new at the square.

It is a 3.5-metre tall statue called "I Goat" by the artist Kenny Hunter. This artwork symbolizes the struggles of immigrants who came to live in the Spitalfields area. Goats are said to be a symbol of persecution worldwide.

“Goats are associated with non-conformity and being independently-minded. That is also true of London, its people and never more so than in Spitalfields.” said artist Kenny Hunter at the official unveiling on 20 January 2011.

I love the fact that Spitalfield Market curates public artwork! Art should be for everyone, can brighten up one's day and teach you how to dream. I am especially attracted to political artwork like this one.

I hope you are able to stop buy if you are in London one day!
