The lake splendor of the high mountains of Papallacta - Ecuador

To the east of Quito at an altitude of more than 3000 meters above sea level, there is a fabulous lake system that is fed with water from the snowy peaks of Cayambe, Sarahurco and various springs that drain from the moors that embrace Papallacta. A land and population that fascinates with its mythical legends since the time when the Inca Empire had control of the territory. According to a historical source, the place name originated from the existence of a renowned indigenous healer who lived in the heart of these mountains. He was known as taita shamán and over the years he adopted the name Papallacta, which means land of the father.

On my visit to Ecuador, I was captivated by this wonderful lake landscape guarded by the imposing mountains with their vegetation and wildlife. The cold environment did not prevent me from stopping to take some pictures; I hope they are to your liking.
