Street Contest - Let Us know About Your Street || COLON STREET

Colon Street is very much popular in Cebu City, Philippines because of its business activities. You can find in here diverse commercial centers from fashionable shops, malls, offices and movie houses. However, Colon street is not your ordinary street. This crowded and busy street is of great cultural and historical significance.

Located in Cebu City, Philippines Coordinates: 10°17'48.28?N 123°53'56.45?E, Colon street is known as the oldest street in the Philippines. Interesting to note that "Colon" is named after no other than the great explorer Christopher Columbus.

And you may already know that Philippines is under Spanish colonization for more that 300 years, you can already picture out what the old Colon Street looks like. Spanish inspired building designs that some are still standing until today are the witnesses of how this street shifts from being a silent neighborhood to become the heart of Cebu City's shopping and business activities.

The silent old Colon Street is now a very noisy street and traffic is very terrible. This street has also become a home to
several street children and homeless families who mostly are begging on the streets for food and money. If given the opportunity, my priority will be to help these homeless people to find a relocation site where they can start a new life away from the street.
