Thanks @bright-obias for announcing yet another contest. As you asked for the publication about my locality. I would be glad to participate.

So here is my entry-

I live in Kushtia. Kushtia is district of South-western region of Bangladesh. It is one of early civilized cities of Bangladesh. Kushtia has very rich history & culture. Its contribution to nation is immense. Previously it was the part of the Indian state west Bengali district Nadia. So earlier of the time in the british period here was established some factories. Thus industrialization was introduced in this region. Mohini Mill,Renwick-Joggeshwar factory, Kushtia Sugar Mills etc were established. Kushtia is the gateway to the southern part from the northern part of Bangladesh. The largest railway bridge is situated between Kushtia & Pabna district. later Lalon Shah Highway Bridge was built for the betterment road transport. Previously ferry was used for the transportation from northern Bangladesh to southern Bangladesh. This matter is arising because Kushtia is situated beside the mighty river Padma. Padma is one of the main rivers of Bangladesh. Padma is known as Ganga in India.It is named Padma after entering Bangladesh. It is a very mighty river.

Kushtia has 6 subdistricts (Commonly known as Upazila) Bheramara, Daulatpur, Mirpur,Kushtia Sadar,Kumarkhali & Khoksa. Kushtia city is a very beautiful organised city. It has two parts the new city & old city. You may see many old buildings in the old parts like you see in the famous Kolkata city of India. Kushtia city is the centre of Business in this region. There are many industries like hardware,Metal,Crockeries, Cloths, electricity, BRB cables,MRS,Renwick-Joggeshwar,Mohini etc. Kushtia have a large area of BSCIC (Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation).

Kushtia is the cultural capital of Bangladesh. The famous Baul singer Lalon Shah was born here. His shrine & tomb is situated in Chheuria. He has a huge impact in the lifestyle of this area & all over the bengal. He is very famous for his contribution in the Bengali culture & philosophy. Mir Mosharraf a famous Bengali writer was also from Kushtia. Bagha Jatin a renowned British abolishment activist is from Kushtia. Kangal Harinath a famous journalist is also from here. Noble laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore spent his earlier days in Shilaidaha, Kushtia. His father's zamindari was here. So oversee the zamindari he was here. He have written many of his literature here.

The first public University of Independent Bangladesh 'Islamic University ' is situated in Kushtia. There are 3 govt. Colleges, 1 medical college & many schools. The education system is quite satisfactory.

The economy of Kushtia is based on agriculture. And here are also many industries as I mentioned earlier. Tobacco grows well in Kushtia. There is a British American Tobacco regional factory in Kushtia.

Kushtia is famous for foods like 'tiler khaza','kulfi',sweets etc. Til is sesame & tiler khaza is a kind of sweetmeat made of sesame & sugar. Kulfi is a kind of icecream made of buttermilk which is very tasty. These are the signature items of Kushtia. Many kinds of sweets are available too.

A lot of visitors visit Kushtia to see those places mentioned. Lalon fair is held twice a year. Lalon fans come Kushtia to visit his shrine. Rabindranath fans also visit his place at a great number. There are some parks in Kushtia like Kamruzzaman Siddiqui park,Alauddin Shikkhapolli park,Zia park,Renwick-Joggeshwar Park.

So this is a brief of my locality I tried to scribe.
