Today i am going to share with you a beautiful island of our country. The name of the island is Saint Martin island

The island is called St. Martin. It is a coral island. This island is impossibly beautiful to look at. This coral island looks like a piece of flower in the middle of the sea.

Introduction of Saint Martin island
St. Martin is locally called narikel jinjira meaning Coconut Island. It is the only coral island in Bangladesh. It is located in the northeast corner of Bangladesh. The area of St. Martin's Island is only three and a half square kilometers. Part of it separates from the main island at high tide. That part is called Chhera Island.

Biodiversity of the island
182 species of animals have been found in and around the island. There are four types of amphibians, 28 types of reptiles, 130 species of birds and twenty types of mammals. Most of the part of this island is made up of corals.

History and naming of the island
Thousands of years ago it was part of Teknaf. But due to natural causes, some of it is lost in the sea. Which resulted in the creation of St. Martin's Island. The island is now 9 km from Teknaf. It was first settled by Arab merchants 250 years ago. They named the island Jazira. The island was later renamed St. Martin's after Mr. Martin, the Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong, when the British took over. This island is also called Cinnamon Island.
About the island
At present, more than 5,000 inhabitants live in this island. most of them are fishermen. Coconut, rice, onion and watermelon are some of the economic crops of the island. The main source of the island's economy is tourism. There are lots of hotels,motels,restaurants in this island.Lots of tourists come to the island from November to February. Tourists cannot visit the island from March to July due to the rough sea. The people of this island brought their livelihood from Teknaf earlier in the day. Otherwise, it is very risky to go to bring things at this time.

Arrival and departure arrangements for the island
Several ships leave from Teknaf every day morning to reach the island, bringing passengers back in afternoon. In addition, there are currently direct flights from Cox's Bazar to St. Martin via luxury ships. You can also go directly to St. Martin's Island by ship from Chittagong if you want.

Eating habits of the people of the island:
The people of the island eat the food like the common people of Bangladesh. But fish predominates in their food menu. But you don’t have to worry about your food. You will get all kinds of food in the restaurants of the island.
