New contest-MOVIE TIME!|October 1, 2014|by@meniya.
Hello steemains
I'm glad to be part of this contest to talk about a movie that's related to our environment, culture, geography and history. Anything related to our history is termed sacred as it tells us about our past and helps transfer our culture and heritage from generations to generations. I would like to thank the @belenguerra for creating such an opportunity for us to talk about this theme.
One movie i love so much that depicts history is October 1. October 1 is a Nigerian dark psychological thriller film written by Tunde Babalola, produced and directed by Kunle Afolayan in 2014.it was shot in Lagos and Ondo state, Nigeria. This is one film i love so much as it potrays history that have seen so far. It shows the true origin of Nigeria and its independence and hence the name "October 1" which is Nigeria's Independence Day.
This film potrays the event that occurred on the eve before Nigeria's Independence. The film has the settings of Colonial Nigeria, narrates the story of Danladi Waziri (Sadiq Daba), a police officer from Northern Nigeria who was posted to a remote town of Akote in Western Nigeria to investigate the frequent female murder cases in the community, and have the mystery solved before the Nigerian flag is raised on October 1, Nigeria's Independence Day.
Father Downing’s love for boys is the
main plot on which other sub plots of the film are woven. He is the pedophile,
who sleeps with Aderopo and AgbekoyaIn a show of betrayal. Reverend Father Downing, undermines the trust of the people of Akote by sexually violating two young boys, Agbekoya and Prince Aderopo, who lived with him in a bid to get western
education at the famous Kings’ College in Lagos. Due to the hurt sustained by Prince Aderopo from the Reverends violation, he decides to rape six virgin girls of Akote before October 1, the same day he is billed to travel to Britain on scholarship for his university education as revenge for the violation he has suffered.
The film won three awards at the 2014 Africa International Film Festival, including the awards for Best Feature Film,Best Screenplay and Best Actor.The film also leads at the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, winning 9 awards out of 12 nominations, including awards for "Best Movie of the Year", "Best Movie Director" and "Best Actress". This film as at February 2015 had made over 100 million naira in 6months.

My view about the film;
I love this movies because it depicts the history of my country Nigeria and gave me an insight of Colonial era in my country before our independence, as i was not born before then. I'm also thrilled by the production design, cinematography and its exploration of themes including tribalism,western imperialism,paedophilia,homosexuality,Nigeria's unification,and also the establishment of a strong connection between western culture and Insurgency in my country today.
