THE DAILY UNFILTERED LIFE IN PROVINCE | THE TRUTH ABOUT LIVING IN SIMPLE AND HAPPY PROVINCIAL LIFE
Good day everyone! After 2 days of struggle from network signal, I can now finally post here in my most favorite platform -STEEMIT. So for today, I’ll share to you how my day went in theme of “Daily UNFILTERED LIFE in Province”.
In Philippines, there’s a lot of provinces that we are all proud of. It is the place where our agricultural heroes build a simple life yet very rich in natural resources. But, this place wasn’t just for agriculture because the city people turned it to the most beautiful spots in the Philippines! Even the foreigners never missed a chance to visit every provinces just to experience the Filipino’s simple and happy life.
There are even some of foreigners asked why do Filipinos are always smiling or looks happy even some of the families have nothing such as huge space to live, good food to for 3 times or more a day, or doesn’t have much clothes to wear. Fortunately, those questions are answered when a lot of the foreigners tried to visit our country’s provinces and even they just stayed there for few days, the memories they experienced cannot be easily forgotten because of the hospitality that was given to them throughout the language barrier. 🥰 And because of that, our country became known with the theme “IT’S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES”.
So just this day, my sister and I just arrived here at my grandpa’s place (Brgy. Mayo, Muñoz, Mati City, Davao Oriental -Mindanao, Philippines) where is so far from the city yet I love this place so much because I can unwind, inhale fresh air and enjoy time without televisions and all. Just radio, fun conversations with family, nature sight seeing and time with plants and pets.
We also brought some goods to not come with empty handed (important Filipino traits). And of course, our grandpa’s favorite cannot be forgotten -constant food in grocery list (biscuits and cookies).
MORNING
It’s the first meal of the day. We have this Sardines patty for breakfast. Yes! You read it right. It’s a patty made from canned tomato sardines. It’s one of my favorites. If you’re interested, just mix flour and egg with little water and cornstarch for crisp then minced onion, minced garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Afterwards, add the sardines including the sauce. Lastly, fry and serve.
For the sauce, my sister mixed the ketchup, soy sauce, calamansi and chili. Trust me, it’s kind of all purpose sauce!
After breakfast and washing dishes, I headed to the backyard to have some sun and to have this photo (more honest reason 🤪 -in order to share in Steemit about the real life here).
These plants are planted and collected by my Aunt (dad’s older sister). She got a green thumb so planting became her biggest hobby.
And these are coconut crops that going to be planted.
To share with you while I’m washing the kitchen utensils after breakfast, I decided and planned to sit here for a while and take some photos to share to you about my grandparent’s place and the very simple life here.
The trees behind me are coconut trees planted by my grandpa but this is not really their farm. To get there, it takes 1-2 hours hike.
This tiny hut is used for stocking coconut charcoal from farm and my grandpa’s unused woods by the way.
This is the real unfiltered life. Even the time today is in modern generation, we still use our hands in washing our clothes because elders find it more efficient than using washing machines then dry it under the sun by hanging it in tied strings.
And here’s a photo of me together with my sister after having some time outside.
NOON
After breakfast, of course lunch will be the next meal. For our lunch earlier, we have this dried anchovies salad. It’s one of the easy-to-prepare-and-go Filipino side dish which we just have to fry the anchovies for seconds then add vinegar together with tomatoes, bitter gourd, minced onion, chili and salt to taste.
A side of it’s easy to prepare, it’s so cheap yet delicious which will make you eat in gusto.
Even it’s just so simple side dish, our tummies are above satisfied with couple cups of rice. 😉
After lunch, my uncle got this basket of cotton fruit (santol -in our language) from my grandparents’ farm planted by my late grandma.
While typing and staring at this fruit still gives me a crave.
Salt and vinegar with chili is the best pair for me!
EVENING
After dinner tonight, my aunt made these coconut ice candy (buko ice candy) to sell as small home business. She used to sell these sweet treats since then until it became a huge help for their everyday living.
The main ingredient for her ice candy is from their backyard only. So it’s a big help to lessen her business capital, too.
After making it, it’s now time to freeze these sweet treat and ready to sell for the next day. The kids really love this and it made their parents buy as well. Sometimes, my aunt make some in different flavors, too.
Living in Province is one of my likes and visiting here in my granny’s home was a really big city break. A side of the nature calmness, it also helped me to spend my time more physically and mentally because when I’m home in city, what I always do is facing my phone the whole day, eat and sleep then repeat. Unlike here, I sleep early and wake earlier than I used to. Through waking up early, it feels like the day is longer (fact in getting older).
So this is how my day went today. Hope I shared to you enough how’s the DAILY UNFILTERED LIFE here in province from morning breakfast, daily routines, little home business up to our old-time way of washing clothes. 😉
