Contest : Tell about Natural resources of my place: Salt Production in Trienggadeng

in Steem Geography3 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone here, I would like to participate in the contest of "Natural Resources in my place. I hope it is not too late to participate. My name is el-nailul from Indonesia, Aceh Province. Geographically the place that I am working on now is in another district, name Pidie Jaya.

I am working in a humanitarian organization that works for the Community Economic Development Project. This project is aiming to support sustainable natural resources which gives direct impact of improvement the local community's economic development in the area.

We choose the most vulnerable family to support by giving the capital and build the facility to produce salt from seawater. The abundance of resources in the area at the Hindian Ocean. The village name is Peurade in Trienggadeng sub-district, Pidie Jaya district Aceh Province, Indonesia.

Two groups of community that we support here in Peurade are mainly farmers and fishermen that live their life under the economic standards. So without any longer introduction, I will show you how we use natural resources (saltwater) to produce healthy salt.

Salt Production To support Community Economic Development

Since the nearest house from the sea as the shore is about 150 meters or even closer, it is really adequate for salt production. But they do not have enough capital to start up a salt business. It is what we are doing to help them:

Construct the tunnel:

This is the tunnel to collect the salt water from the sea and evaporate the saltwater under the tunnel and gradually become salt. This tunnel builds from UV plastic on the top and geo-membrane plastic as the pool/basin. So basically we use the radiation of sunray to evaporate to water with the process of diffusion.

It looks like this one when ready

The tunnel with saltwater under the plastic cover, this water will gradually evaporate with the help by the wind and sunray

Taking the water from the sea

We set up the pipeline from the sea up to the tunnel using the pipes/plumbing system

Mr. Muslem with the brand new water pump that has been connected to the pipes

The pump is used to pump the seawater into the tunnel that a bit far. The distance from the shore to the tunnel is about 150 m. It needs a strong water pump to be able to dispense the water from the sea to the tunnel, thus we use two steps water pump.

Water from the sea is taken and deposited in the tunnel for a month before it turns out to the salt. The process will take about 30-45 days depending on the weather and temperature. The hotter temperature is the shorter time will take.

In the picture below you can see the water has been evaporating out and change into the white crystal of salt.

The pictures tell you a complete process from the seawater into the white crystal salt. This kind of salt is very healthy to consume. Eventually, last week was the first harvesting time for us, it was a great happiness for the community to have their own sustainable asset and earn something from the abundant resource of seawater.

One tunnel can produce 200-225 kg of salt with a current market price is Rp. 2,300 (about 0.4 steem). So for one tunnel, they can earn Rp 460,000 - 517,500 one tunnel/month (about 80.7 - 90.7 steem), we construct 10 tunnels for them, and hopefully, they can earn enough in a month.

The cost to construct one tunnel is about: Rp 6,000,000 ( 1,100 steem) not include the pipe and water pump

Thank you very much for reading my post and support it, I wish I could have submitted this post earlier, but I just knew it and this is my entry for the natural resource contest.
