Hello Steemians,

I am really glad and grateful to @belenguerra and @worldgeography for organizing such an amazing contest taking the environment into consideration.

In my Environmental Geology class, we got to know that what we termed as natural disasters were rather earth-forming phenomenons while our human activities for survival were rather earth degrading phenomena. Thus natural disasters are natural events in the absence of humans.

In my opinion, Pompeii is a true historical reflection of a significant natural disaster covering the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D which wiped out the city of Pompeii.

POMPEII BRIEF REVIEW:

The movie is centered on a Milo(Kit Harington), who was taken into captivity at a young age when the Romans attacked a tribe of Celtics. He watched the commander of the Roman army, Corvus(Kiefer Sutherland ) kill his mother right before his eyes before he was enslaved. He grew up to be a strong gladiator under his master Graecus(Joe Pingue) and gained recognition amongst the world of gladiators.
He was later brought to Pompeii among other gladiators to combat each other in that amphitheater of Pompeii, for the upcoming festival. Milo eventually falls for Cassia(Emily Browning), the daughter of Severus and Aurelia who has been betrothed to Corvus, who was currently a Senator. Corvus, upon finding out about their affair, planned to kill Milo in the tournament.
Milo was drawn against Proculus(Sasha Roiz ), Corvus officer and as they battle out, Mount Vesuvius begins to erupt sending panic everywhere. Milo finally escapes from the amphitheater and gets his revenge for his mother's death by stranding Corvus to die by the eruption. In the end, Milo and Cassia lose their means of escape and die in the hands of each other as they were engulfed by spreading lava
Though the film received many criticisms and was rated below average, it won the Golden Screen Award in 2015 for Achievement in Art Direction, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Overall Sound, Achievement in Sound Editing, and Achievement in Visual Effects. Pompeii grossed a total of $117.8 million after production.

In Summary

To me, Pompeii is a true reflection of how nature intends to mend itself from time to time. Magma built up with the earth's crust is released to the surface to relieve pressure accumulation with the earth.
The magma, once on the earth's surface as lava, solidifies with time in the creation of new landforms such as lowlands and high lands which improves the aesthetic view of the earth.
It was quite unfortunate that the inhabitants of Pompeii, in their ignorance missed the precursors of the volcanic eruption such as quakes and tremors. Here, we could see that the beliefs of the people clouded their knowledge of natural disasters.
They attributed these precursors as a sign from their ancient god, Vulcan(the god of fire in Roman religion and myth). The entire city was lost as a result of their belief. The film teaches us a valuable lesson to respect nature and appreciate its processes.
