CONTEST: THE PROBLEMS IN MY COUNTRY; HOW IT HAS AFFECTED ME AND HOW I WOULD SOLVE THEM IF I WAS THE LEADER.
INTRODUCTION
Hello steemit family, my name is @anselam, I am a Nigerian. Just like all other countries have their own problems, my country also have their own problems, some of these problems are also predominant in other countries while some of them are kind of unique or specific to Nigeria only.
WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS MY COUNTRY IS FACING
There are so many problems going on in Nigeria ranging from poor education, poor health Care to bad governance. But there are some other problems like secession calls, insecurity and a lot more, so let's take a look at some of the problems.
INSECURITY
Over the last couple of years, the country has faced some serious security threats ranging from the BOKO HARAM insurgency to kidnapping and banditry. Many people have lost their lives to this terrorism and many others have lost their loved ones.
But in recent times, this insecurity has escalated rapidly. It started from the northern part of the country, but it has spread to all other parts of the country like the south. Not only that, kidnapping is now a very rampant thing, many pupils and students have been abducted from their schools while many other people have been killed on the streets.
Similarly, there have been a lot of clashes between the cattle herders and the farmers, leading to serious division in the country.
SECESSION CALLS
There have been calls from many sectors of the country for secession. A quick example of that is the withdrawal call from the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB). These South easterners are very keen on having their own country and they are taking this by storm. Just last week, they declared a stay-at-home order to all the people within that region. But the federal government is not in Support of such moves and this is creating a very toxic environment for the people in Nigeria.
This particular call was the cause of the first civil war in Nigeria, so many people are afraid that this could lead to another civil unrest in the country.
BAD GOVERNANCE
Last year, we saw a massive protest in the country due to bad governance, and the youths are still unhappy with the way the country is being governed. As a matter of fact, the current secession calls is arising from the fact that people are not satisfied with the way the government are treating them.
POOR EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE
Education in Nigeria has completely dilapidate and this is very unfavorable for the students in the country. Last year, the Academic Staff Union Of Universities in Nigeria (ASUU) embarked on a strike that lasted for 10 months, currently, the Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics are on strike and it has lasted for more than two months already.
This has shown that the education sector in the country have been neglected to a large extent.
The healthcare system in the country is another area of concern. Since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country, doctors have embarked on strike for two times due to lack of personal protective equipments.
HOW THESE PROBLEMS ARE AFFECTING ME AS A CITIZEN
As a citizen and an inhabitant of Nigeria, there is no way these problems can go on in the country and you are unaffected.
Firstly, my education has widely been affected by most of these things. Schools get shot down from time to time due to growing security concerns. The poor educational system in the country has also neglect the students, there are no adequate equipments in schools.
Businesses have also been affected to a large extent, people cannot travel to other parts of the country again due to the fear that they could be abducted on their way.
Personally, these issues have affected me because I can no longer go to many places to carry out my business.
Effects of bad governance like epileptic power supply have also affected me because I now have to spend more money in trying to generate electric power for my self. This is always making my devices to shot down, thereby disconnecting me from the rest of the world.
The natural disasters like wind storm has also hampered this electricity problems by blowing down electric poles and thereby completely destructing electricity supply.
WHAT I WILL DO TO RELIEF THESE PROBLEMS IF I AM GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAD THE COUNTRY
Taking a second look of these issues, I realize that most of these issues can be brought to the minimal level if our leaders do the necessary things that should be done.
If I am given the opportunity to lead the country, then o will provide more employment for the youths in order to reduce the unemployment rate because most of the kidnapping and banditry in the country is caused by lack of employment.
I will also revamp the health and education sector completely by providing the necessary equipment needed for the activities of these sectors to be done in a smooth manner.
I will also employ more security personnel to boost the security in the country and I will also improve the welfare of the already existing security officers in the country, this will go a long way in boosting the security of the country.
CONCLUSION
Most of the issues bothering the whole world today has escalated to this level due to the negligence of our leaders, but it is also good for us to ask ourselves how we can help reduce this problems if we were the leaders.
But come to think of it, most of us are leaders at various levels, so I believe that we can also use these our various positions to help in solving these problems.
