Greetings to everyone in the community. I trust your day is going well. It's my joy to participate in this contest, hence an going to be describing the most common grain and rarest grain in my area.

Maize is the most common grain grown in my area. It it's grown on almost every farmland and gardens and any available space with ones living environment. It's very simple to cultivate and harvest hence the demand is very high. It's a staple food in my community.

Maize Field

Description;
The maize plant possesses a simple stem of nodes and internodes. A pair of large leaves extend off of each internode and the leaves total 8–21 per iplant. The leaves are linear or lanceolate (lance-like) with an obvious midrib (primary vein) and can grow from 30 to 100 cm (11.8–39.4 in) in length. The male and female inflorescences (flower bearing region of the plant) are positioned separately on the plant. The male inflorescence is known as the 'tassel' while the female inflorescence is the 'ear'. The ear of the maize is a modified spike and there may be 1–3 per plant. The maize grains, or 'kernels', are encased in husks and total 30–1000 per ear. The kernels can be white, yellow, red, purple or black. Maize is an annual plant, surviving for only one growing season and can reach 2–3 m (7–10 ft) in height. Maize may also be referred to as corn.

Maize is commonly grown in my area because it's a warm tropical region and the warm and rich soil helps in it's growth. Maize is a heavy feeder therefore we also use fertilizers to ensure its optimum growth.
A stalk of maize produces at least a cob of corn when fully matured.

It can be eaten when also combined with other staple foods like breadfruit, beans, rice. It can be eaten also with coconut. It has commercial value and it's also exported when processed and canned. It's a rich source of carbohydrates and in high demands.

The rarest grain in my area is beans. Its hardly cultivated here at all. The little we eat of it is from the ones imported into our locality from other localities around us which cultivate them.
This is a sample of the grain when processed and sold in the market. It's a rich source of protein.

Its also a staple food.
It's not grown around here so am going to share a picture of it's plant that I got from the internet. I didn't see it anywhere around to take a photo.
